    This is why: Matthew 6, v. 1-6

Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.

  4. Also, Pastor, I went through and here's what I've got as far as New Testament books written by those who personally new Jesus:
Matthew, written by one of the apostles. Mark was written by John Mark, an associate of Peter's who may have known Jesus but certainly knew the apostle Peter. John, I John II John III John and Revelation, written by the apostle whom Jesus loved. James, written by Jesus' brother. I Peter and II Peter, written by the apostle. Jude, likely written either by Jesus' brother or the apostle Judas (not the same Judas who betrayed Jesus).
Now we come to the problem of Paul. He claims to have met Jesus after the resurrection and learned from him them. He wrote Romans, I Corinthians, II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Phillipians, Colossians, I Thessalonians, II Thessalonians, I Timothy, II Timothy, Titus, Philemon and possibly Hebrews.
That's a whole lot of books written by those who knew the savior.

  5. Call it post padding if you want, but I'll add a few quick thoughts on evolution and Christianity.
First, as someone has previously said, the Bible refers to "1,000 years with God being like a day and a day like 1,000 years." To leads me to beleive that God doesn't view time as we do. Thus the creation story could take virtually any amount of time.
I see a gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. God creates the earth and the heavens, and then they are formless and void. I believe quite a while took place between those times.
Also, notice that God makes man out of dust. To the people at the time this tale was first told, the concept of a micro-organism would be astounding. "Dust" would be a lot easier way to put it.
I believe in the truth of the Bible, but I don't believe it is the whole truth. That is to say, I don't think God has told us everything ever (hence the dinosaurs argument). He tells us enough truth to give us a fair shot at a decision. It's up to us to do the rest.
If he simply appeared and said, "Here I am. Worship me," for example, there would be no more room for faith. I think the faith aspect is important. Otherwise we go back to the position where we are robots.

  7. Is that a sin? Can I get a ruling here?
I need to know how much Blood of the Lamb to sprinkle on myself if it is.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone...

Some of our Jewish friends might have some leftover from seder dinners.

But according to Horny -- the official deity of SportsJournalists.com -- post padding is a sacrament.

    So enjoy yourself.

thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me
    Thats the way it seemed.
    Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
    I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldnt leave her if I tried.

I thought love was more or less a given thing,
Seems the more I gave the less I got.
    Whats the use in tryin'?
    All you get is pain.
When I needed sunshine I got rain.

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
    I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldnt leave her if I tried.

Summed up your argument comes down to:
    1. If I translate it differently to suit my goal, the inaccuracy goes away.
    2. The Book of Genesis should comment on the Trinity. (However, that is just absurd since Jesus doesn't come around for quite a few years afterward.)
    3. Theological arguments that you cannot make but are just "certain" that a refute exists.
    4. Bible scholarship arguments that you cannot refute but are just "certain" that a refute exists.

Either it does or doesn't but you to dismiss it out of hand by saying "Well someone smarter than I has the answer" is just weak especially in this case.

As to the following posts regarding those written by various apostles... the Bible wasn't put to paper until well after the death of Jesus. Either these written documents were somehow "found" by individuals or they were made up. All things are possible.

And, here's a fun one for you to try and poke holes in... Jesus Never Existed.com.
