Big Chee, in sparring with sportsbruh and R E R, you realize you're likely dealing with white trolls acting as if they're black, right?

And you didn't mention the second part of my statement....building resolve in those that see through it...THOSE are the people that bring change. THOSE are the people that awake the uninitiated.

Why would you expect a columnist who gets paid to attract people to his columns to be the one who initiates change?

Just keeping it real, you all.

    Shush.

Just because YOU have EVERYTHING all figured out doesn't mean everyone else does.

Just keeping it real, you all.

I'm assuming this Oz, but please correct me if I'm wrong. You think the story would have escalated as it did if they just released a statement and didn't agree to meet with him.

I'm not sure that's the case. I think people would have been focused on Imus, Jesse and Al without thinking of the players until they got brought out to make statements and went to meet with Imus themselves.

Because he claims he's a voice for change? He did compare himself to Rosa Parks you know. She exemplifies change. Doesn't he bear any responsibility for the place he made for himself? Or should I dismiss his own self promoting?

It was already a huge story that dragged on for more than a week before they held that press conference. The escalation had already taken place with other people (Jackson, Sharpton, etc). By then, Hughley still probably would have had some fun with the comment that started the story to begin with.

That's just my guess, we won't ever know for sure.

D.L. Hughley, who has not had a show on tv in a couple of years and when he was at his height may have reached perhaps a tenth of the audience that Don Imus reached -- is not on the same level. I am sorry.
This would be like the local alderman saying something crude and the speaker of the house saying the same comment. Who would have the greater impact.

So are you saying in your aol piece that you not really qualified to speak about her specifically, but you lump her into the genre of coaches so you can feel like you can make an opinion about her without even covering the women's college game...well how can you do that when in her part of coaching does not get regular visiblity like the roy williams, coach k's and jim boheim's of the world.

    Nothing about reporting?

Jason, I wholeheartedly admire your ability to passionately argue a topic, particularly those rarely touched in the mainstream. Yet the one commonality I find among my favorite columnists is they also are intrepid reporters with an ability to get the thoughts and words from a subject that others rarely get. Poz and Plaschke are great writers, but they're also incredible reporters. Canzano is one of the best at it. I don't think any of them, if they simply argued every time out, would be considered a great columnist. When my friends who don't read the papers see Plaschke arguing on TV, they don't think much of him. It's his ability to report the column that makes him and so many others so compelling.

I know your list was off the top of your head. Reporting just seemed like a rather important omission.

  11. To college-age kids, Imus has an impact equivalent to the aforementioned alderman.

Also ... to Reel E Reel ... I agree with much of what you're saying, but if you say "Just keeping it real" one more time, I'm going to have to pour Krazy Glue in your keyboard. It is a meaningless racial calling card.
