Should the Yanks struggle in the next two series (at Mets and vs. Red Sox), do Joe Torre and Brian C

  1. It comes down to one thing. Hype! That's all there is to it. Anyone that knows baseball are saying the same things you are saying. Even hardcore Yankees fans have to believe that Clemens can help, but not that much if the rest are not producing.

You lost me there. Dusty Baker couldn't manage a team of Little League ringers to the city title.

And that exploding sound you heard? The head of Armchair_QB.

But on a lighter and more pessimistic note towards the Yanks, the Mets are sure to break out the brooms tonight at Shea!

In 05 and 06, the Mets were very close to sweeping the Yanks. In 04, we actually swept the Yanks. Let's make it a second time.

    Boston's lead is now 11.

We, son? You work for the Mets? They pay you? You own stock in the team?

    If ya do, great.

    If not, don't say we.

    Dusty Baker is a great ass-patter and handholder. He's a below-mediocre major-league manager.
Proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt, in Chicago, and acted persecuted when he was shown the door.

You mean just like he did when his schtick wore thin in San Fran?

How is any of this Joe Torre's fault? When your rotation hasn't been a cohesive unit since the beginning of the season thanks to an injury bug that indicates a Red Sox voodoo hex, how is it your fault? How is it your fault that Carl "Porsche" Pavano has won 5 games in three years, at approximately $8 million a win and makes former Yankee Jaret Wright seem durable in comparison?

The problem with the Yankees is their very approach. How were the recent title teams built? Not with overpaid, aging mercs like Clemens, Randy Johnston and Bobby Abreu. They were built with talent out of the system like Jeter and Rivera with a few wily vets with chips on their shoulders. Their farm system has nearly been bled dry and is in desperate need of a talent infusion. One could almost say that the Yankees have mortgaged their future for the present and now the bill is due.

If anyone should be axed, it should be Cashman. Torre can only work with what he's given.

I completely agree, but when a team struggles, who is always the first to go? The coach. The manager. Joe Torre was given a $198 million team and told to win the World Series. Instead, this team has lost two-out-of-every-three games it has played. Steinbrenner will hold someone accountable.

I think if the Mets come back to win and the Sox sweep the Yanks, both Torre and Cashman are fired.
