Wow that was quick work by Henin.

Women's matches were so uncompetitive that they were always over before I get home in the morning.

I didn't see one stroke of the semifinals or final.

I was thrilled when Ivanovic broke Henin to start the match. The rest of it? Eh, not so much.

Anyway, who thinks Roger's going to win this? I'm really hoping he does -- until another stud American or two come along, a Federer Grand Slam would be about the only thing to keep men's tennis on the radar in this country. But I also have a bad feeling about this. For some reason, I see Nadal playing the match of his life, an "OK, you beat me once on clay, now you'll never get close again" match. So many people are picking Roger to finally get this title, that I think Nadal will prove a point and win in straights.

    I sure hope I'm wrong.

I'd love, LOVE, to see Roger win. The possibility of a Grand Slam would be awesome, but Roger hasn't looked great the last coupla matches, and he'll have to be great to be able to beat Nadal today.

I'm convinced Federer wins this match and wins the Slam...
maybe then people other than tennis fans will recognize this guy as the incredible athlete he is

I surely hope so. I just realized that if he wins tomorrow, he'll have a Serena Slam. All 4 slam titles at the same time.

"Serena slam" ... "Tiger slam" in golf ... all bullshit.

The only "Grand Slam" is all 4 in the same calendar year.
If Federer wins tomorrow, it's his. Barring injury he is unbeatable at Wimbledon or the US.
And then he is No. 2 all time behind Laver.

No offense, but it's pretty fucking rare to own all four slam titles at the same time and I've got no issue acknowledging that as an achievement unto itself.

I'm not a big tennis fan and have never posted on this thread, but how old is Federer? Barring injury, will he easily surpass Sampras?

25, and he should pass Sampras sometime next year. He's got 10 Slam titles. Sampras has 14, and I'd be shocked if Roger didn't win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open this year.

It's not a matter of might anymore, buck. It's just when. My guess would be next year. Course that is barring injury.

Federer will surpass Sampras, though not by a mile. I predict he will end his career with maybe 17 slams before hanging it up around age 31 or 32.

But if he is going to win the French, it needs to be soon. That is not a tournament older players can win. Especially with Nadal (21) and Djokovic (19) not going anywhere soon.
