Nashville Predators moving to Canada? NOPE! Sorry, Canucks (and KC!)...

I am getting tired of all the talk surrounding Basillie and this franchise. Would he just state that he is moving the team, whatever compensations be given to Nashville or the Leafs and move the team already?

Hey, this is the best hockey/business story we've had in years. Enjoy it. :)

I suspect it'll get better as we move along.

The Lockout wasn't a good business story?

well, the Preds traded Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell to Philly, who signed both players to 6-year deals

in exchange, the Preds got their 1st round pick back from the Flyers, which was dealt in exchange for Peter Forsberg

Preds lose their best d-man and a solid, young power forward

A good move by the Flyers, but I think they overpaid on the contracts. Hartnell is not a 4.3 mil a year player and Timonen is not a $6.3 mil a year D-man. What this does though is free up Pitkanen to be sent to one of six or seven teams trying to pry him away. I believe the Flyers and Pitkanen are scheduled for arbitration. Lowe is waiting with open arms.

There are several NHL teams which might be worth more than $250-million.

    New York Rangers
    Toronto Maple Leafs
    Montreal Canadiens
    Boston Bruins
    Dallas Stars

As for the Predators... they are worth one price if they are forced to stay in Nashville, and another price if they can move to a market with better potential.

Detroit didn't make your $250-million list, or Chicago? I know they are a shell of a team now, but being an original 6 team is worth something.

I figured there were one or two I missed. I think Detroit would absolutely be worth more than $250-million. The only question I would have about Chicago is that they have been awful for so long. I also thought Philadelphia might approach that mark.

Chicago hasn't been aweful any longer than Boston or NYR. They're just really bad right now. Philly I think is definitely there, and I want to throw Colorado into the discussion as well, as they have been so good for so long, much like Dallas.

The question I would have about Colorado's value is that it doesn't seem as big a market do I don't know if they would approach $250-mil.

I think in that case it has a lot to do with their recent history and the health of their future, and when looking at some of their prospects looks pretty good. Plus they sell out almost every game.

According to a Forbes report back in November 06, the top ranked franchises were:

    Toronto ($340 million)
    Rangers ($305)
    Wings ($258)
