Can't believe I haven't mentioned this yet but who remembers Steve Allen and his Man On The Street routine with Louis Nye, Tom Poston, Don Knotts and, occasionally, Gabriel Dell? One of the funniest bits on the early version of late night TV, even before Carson.

Gabe Kaplan beating that Eveready Battery prick in the 100 yard dash was a great, great moment.

I remember the "Still The One" theme very well.

SCTV's Battle Of The PBS Stars was better than ABC's but who could forget Robert Hegyes's titanic performance in the Tug Of War not to mention all the gratuitous T&A shots.

Some young guy named Springsteen was being touted as the future of Rock N' Roll.

The Tangerine Bowl, baby! And how about the Peach Bowl? Actually, I remember a Bluebonnet Bowl from the early 80s, and feeling nostalgiac that it was one of those cool bowl names that you don't get anymore. But I guess it was one of the first signs of corporate encroachment of bowl game names.

When it was LEGAL to drink in states such as New Jersey at 18 but you couldn't vote until you were 21.

Not true for New Jersey. The 26th amendment lowered the voting age to 18 in 1971, I believe. I know I voted in the 1972 election. The change in the drinking age came in 1972 or 1973.

There were also other states where the voting age was 18 before the 26th amendment passed. I believe Kentucky may have been one state where you could drink and vote after you were 18.

It was OK to drink in New York at 18 before they changed the voting age to 18.
