    Guess that means I'm fucked.

  5. I once had a Delta flight get delayed four hours, but my connecting flight was right on time. Of course this was on the way back home from a job interview, so I'm hauling ass across the Houston airport to catch the connector, which was going to take off 10 minutes after my first flight landed. This was all while I'm in my suit.

The Sentinel received about 190 applications a few years ago when they posted an opening here for a high school reporter, so yeah, that sounds like a fair guess.

Can we work up a list of top five recent Sentinel openings in last five years, in order of number of resumes submitted? I'm exactly that interested in the behind-the-scenes revelation that a GA opening at a major daily -- at a time when nobody's hiring anyone -- would generate a high level of interest. Or maybe a poll where we can each guess how many resumes were sent in, and the person who guesses closest to the actual total gets an autographed letter of rejection from Hoppes?

There tends to be a huge difference in the number of people applying for writing jobs compared with those looking for copy editing spots. Younger journalists, in particular, don't look at the desk as a parallel track but as an if-I-have-to choice. I would be surprised if the AJC and St. Pete get a great deal of qualified applicants for their posted copy jobs, and those are two of the better papers in the South.

What's the over/under on people making calls, even though he said "no calls?"

If you're interested in the Sentinel job, please send your packets ASAP.
We're starting to go through them and will start bringing in candidates.

I was expecting Johnny Dangerously to make that post.
