The sports editor at the West Chester (Pa.) Daily Local http://www.dailylocal.com got up and walked out, without giving formal notice, earlier this week. So, although, there is no listing yet on jjobs.com, this position is open unless it gets filled internaly.

This is a JRC paper, so it's easy to understand why the SE or anybody else would just reach a breaking point and walk out the door. West Chester was the JRC guinea pig for the new alfa system, which replaced Microsoft Word and Quark.

This is a tricky one. The West Chester Daily Local has tons of stuff to cover. However, they are still living in a time warp of sorts. It's a good paper to cut your teet or if you want to be in the Philadelphia area market. You won't cover the pros but there is West Chester University, Cheyney University and on a good day Widener University. And the preps are pretty damn good.

Caryl Kauffman still writes for the Daily Local, doesn't she? She covers the pros. Doesn't Rob Parent cover the Flyers for the Daily Local? And I think the JRC Phillies guy, Dennis Deitch, works at the Daily Local.

I'm not sure, but I think the Daily Local has an Eagles beat writer, too. Plus Al Morganti. He writes about pros.

I know it's shocking, but it's possible that boots is totally talking out of his ass here.

I know their situation quite well. And when I say THEY DON'T cover the pros well, I mean that.
It's shocking that a guy who lives in New Jersey doesn't have a clue. Then again, maybe not.

Boots, you said they don't cover the pros. The West Chester Daily Local in fact, does cover the pros. Their writers are pretty good, too. You're an idiot.

I don't admit to being wrong about something that I read pretty much on a daily basis.

Shhh, we don't want to upset Frank_Ridgeway. He expects all JRC criticism to be very, very professional and without any antics. I think the Daily Local covers the Eagles and Sixers, but isn't it actually the Delaware County Times that covers the Phillies and Flyers for JRC? Either way, a couple of pro beats or not, it's still part of an awful chain. The SE walked out because of the standard JRC harrassment.

Actually, isn't coverage of the Philly pros split among the JRC papers? I think Deitch is at the Delco Times and Parent is based in Norristown.

Like the other JRC papers in the cluster, the sports section is very game-story driven. I picked up the Daily Local about a year ago on a Sunday and read a very long centerpiece story written by the SE. It looks like he was trying to change that mentality.

You are correct but don't tell that to the clown in New Jersey. He think's I'm an idiot. Then again, he DOES live in New Jersey.
