Point taken. I don't necessarily agree, but I can see your points.

I'm honestly not trying to antagonize anyone. This is just my way of protesting, for lack of a better term, the Chris Benoit side saddle pics. I already got into one name-calling match tonight over this, I'm in no rush to get into another (no, seriously).

Knowing a few people in their PR department, I can say that the story wasn't meant to "tease" anything. It was the first acknowledgement by WWE of the reports from the local Atlanta media that Benoit -- a fairly big star in their company, a popular wrestler with their fans, and the guy they spent 3 hours honoring on TV Monday night -- may have been a cold-blooded killer who murdered his own wife and child.

This story is going to be a shitstorm of bad press for them. If they had even the slightest indication that Benoit wasn't to blame for what happened, they obviously wouldn't have mentioned those reports that implicated him. Thus, by WWE acknowledging that a local station "reported that investigators believe" Benoit to be the killer, and stating for the record that they have information the cops aren't ready to release yet, they're saying Benoit did it without saying that he did it.

That was the point of the story. On Tuesday when the cops likely come out and declare that Benoit murdered his family, WWE has already beaten them to the punch to some extent. It's going to be a nightmare, so they might as well break the bad news themselves.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Shit happens.

This is why athletes should not be idolized. They're just assholes like everybody else and not worthy of hero worship. Doesn't mean we shouldn't watch WWE or NFL or MLB, but we shouldn't take it so hard when they fuck up and remind us that they're human.

I enjoy wrestling, and whether or not Chris Benoit is a murderer, I can still enjoy his matches as the entertainment they were meant to be.

    There's only one Benoit, IMO.

According to Dave Meltzer, tonight's Smackdown/ECW tapings will go on as planned and will neither be a tribute to Benoit nor will it continue the McMahon fake death storyline.

Also, why is it pronounced "ben-OIT" when Benoit is a first name, but "ben-WAH" when it's a last name?

It's amazing how we can't discuss the tragic murder-suicide of a relatively well-known person without some of us on this board lowering ourselves to the sort of self-centered "me-first" petty bickering that have become all too typical on this board.

I was about to mention that very thing. Along about page 5 or 6, you could see this thread hitting a patch of ice and skidding inexorably toward a guardrail.

Jeebus, people, isn't there anything better to do than crack on each other for sidesaddle photos?

I don't know if this has been posted in here yet, but this is evidently a first hand account by a sheriff when they arrived at the scene...

I found it on another forum that did not have a link. I will try to link it.

Good God! ... Well, that certainly fits with what the D.A. said yesterday, that when the details leaked it would be a very bizarre case.

Sorry, but that reads like a fan's desperate attempt to turn a double murderer into a good guy.
