The Journal-Standard, a 15,000 circulation 7-day a.m based in Freeport, IL, is seeking an editor to lead our sports team. Our readers take local sports coverage seriously, so this is a big job. You’ll lead coverage of prep and junior-college sports, our local raceway and manage new weekly recreational and outdoor features. The successful candidate must have a passion for community journalism, strong editing, organizational and design skills, and the ability to work with other editors to produce a top-notch community newspaper. Are you inflexible or afraid of change? This isn’t the job for you. If you are interested in this unique opportunity, please email a resume and cover letter to andrew.analore@journalstandard.com or use the "apply now" feature of journalismjobs.com.

Apparently this job has gone drastically down hill in the past few years.
Deadlines -- especially a 10 p.m. Friday night one -- have gottent rediculous, and word on the street is that they might not fill the last sports reporter opening to save $$.

10pm Fridays. During HS football season. Yowsa. Examples like that are why people are playing Nearer My God To Thee on the violin and drowning with the Titanic. :)

Just was through Freeport last week on the way to Chicago from Dubuque. Nice town. Too bad the pennies are being pinched.

Actually, they are filling the reporter position. They just decided to not let the SE make the hire. Because what would a sports editor know about hiring sports writers, anyway?

Thanks for the correction Carl. Either way -- not good in Freeport.

    You must be confused.

  9. You can call Freeport a lot of things. Nice town is not one of them.

The only given explanation seems to be pure, unadulterated egomania by a despot ME.
