There is one for a SE opening:

"F/T Sports Editor – based in Framingham, MA - for several West unit weeklies. We're looking for experienced sports writers who can juggle responsibilities for assigning a group of stringers on a weekly basis and overseeing coverage in Needham and Wellesley. This editor is based in our Framingham office and will have the opportunity to work with the MetroWest Daily News sports staff."

I was particularly curious because I remembered this thread from a while ago:

Guess things are getting sorted out ... what have people heard?

My apologies if this isn't job oriented enough and has to get moved to the j-topics thread.

Mike Biglin, who was the SE at MetroWest last I checked, is a good guy.

I believe the weeklies opening came about due to internal promotions after Albert Breer bolted MetroWest's Patriots beat for the DMN. There is move to move up there.

Folks have gone on to bigger and better: John Tomase (Herald Patriots beat writer) and Tom Curran (NBCsports.com) are two that leap to mind.

gatehouse is run by former cnhi execs. that is all.

  4. Albert Breer also just took off to become a Cowboys beat writer at the Dallas Morning News. And Mike Reiss, the Globe's Pats guy, is a former MWDN-er. And wicked, Biglin is still, in fact, the Sports Editor, and still, in fact, a good guy.

I'm a former MetroWest employee and worked with Tomase and Curran - who knew those hacks would ever amount to anything ;) — when CNC owned the shop. And Bigs is a good man and a devout Phillies, Eagles fan. Who would ever think those two phrases could be combined on the same person. I was formerly the sports editor of the Marlborough, Hudson and Southborough weeklies there as well as working for the MDN and it definitely gave me some good training. some of the lessons I learned there I've taken to being a daily sports editor. Of course, I don't know what Gatehouse has done to the place.

Bigs has always been OK in my book.

Don't know how I forgot Reiss, or Ed Reed, the star Everglades beat writer, for that matter.

And Bedside is right, that Ohio State bastard alum Breer is on the Cowboys beat.

Yeah, as is evidenced by their budget-cutting willingness.

So much for these positions being open; sources tell me there is a GateHouse New England-wide hiring freeze. Must be close to the end of the fiscal year or something.

    Can't say I'm surprised.

The GateHouse folks in Illinois say that they have a hiring freeze on too.
