Saracen's tackling of Smash had more to do with Julie than Smash. Dude is the qb of the defending champs and he gets dumped? I'd be pissed too. The guy has always done the right thing and now his best bud is on the football team hooking up with a totally hot chick, and his world is upside down.

Isn't it also a bit odd that Saracen still has the shy, stuttering, humble personality, still the naive virginal dude getting dumped by his girlfriend for another guy?

That persona worked well when he was the backup made starter by tragic circumstances, but now he's the stud who just QB'd his team to the Texas High School State Championship, in the real world he'd be the absolute god of that town with girls falling all over themselves to be with him. That's gotta do wonders for a guy's self-confidence issues. Perhaps his personality needs to evolve to better match his new circumstances.

I could see Saracen's blowup as believable, considering it seems like he's been going bat-shit crazy inside since the season 2 premiere.

As for the hook-up, we all made a good call on that one. That is happening soon. I guess the whole generational gaps in dating doesn't amount to much in Dillon, Texas.

  4. So you don't think they are taking him in that direction? I don't think the "old Matt," the shy, humble one would have ever considered fighting Smash on the football field. I thought his reason for doing it was lame, but it definitely signaled some evolution of his character and self confidence, at least to me.

I also found the "fight" believable and I don't think it was about the TD, it was about Smash patronizing him near the stands.

Consider Saracen's situation: Some crazy woman comes into his house, starts by saying this is how it's going to be while Grandma is going crazy. Julie says she needs time. He see Julie hop in the Swede's van after school. New coach is a prick. Teammates are pissed that Smash is Meshawn-like and expect him to do something about it. Smash dicks around with the girls when he's supposed to be working, leaving Saracen to do all the work.

Dude's got his boiling point and if all of that doesn't push you over the edge, I don't know what will.

    Edit: I almost forgot .... Sweet Mother of God, we saw Lyla in a bra. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

    BOING!!

Edit No. 2: Way to go, Landry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    DOUBLE BOING!!!

  6. LOL, great post....

Isn't it weird how a TV show can have you genuinely feeling happy/sad about a character. Like, I'm seriously stoked for Landry right now...

My biggest problem is that's happened with a lot of characters -- it's like they've forgotten how they progressed last year. Smash and Riggins started out as these very limited, stereotypical characters, but then gained more depth as the season and storylines played out. Now this year is seems like they've completed regressed to where they were at the beginning of last season. It's tough because this show needed to jump 8 months in the characters' lives between seasons, but I feel like we lost something in that time period.

Bumping this up to the front so we can get some comments on last night's show...lots of stuff mentioned on here coming true...but I'm not thrilled about the next episode re: Landry and Tyra...

I love every direction this show is going. Like it even better than Season 1.

I had been nervous about a few of the storylines, but I thought last night's episode was outstanding. They even started to make the whole Landry/Tyra murder situation seem more realistic, IMO. The guy who plays Landry was great.

Street's desperation became more real too. Leading up to last night, I thought the whole surgery in Mexico thing was a bit absurd, but Street really showed how desperate he is for some hope of ever walking again.

Things seem to be headed in a good direction. I just hope the ratings are enough to keep the show from getting canceled.

Nice recovery last night after a bit of a disappointment the previous week.

Prediction: The coach whose job Taylor took will wind up either:
-- coaching against Dillon in the state title game, or
-- try to exact a little revenge on Taylor personally.

Gotta wonder if they gave Scott Porter (aka Jason Street) the full script ahead of him getting the job. Maybe they did. I suppose his character has a lot more depth right now than the star quarterback who wins state championship would have.
