Saw this on the Arizona Newspaper Association Web site. Only place hotter in the country is likely Death Valley.


The Mohave Valley Daily News in Arizona is seeking a reporter to cover area athletics and help put out our sports section. High school sports make up the bulk of what we do, but we also branch out and cover recreation/outdoors issues and trends. Several big events make their way to the area, from prime-time boxing to rodeo to off-road racing. Quark and/or photography skills, in addition to solid clips, will move you to the top of the list. The Mohave Valley Daily News is a morning newspaper with a circulation of roughly 11,000, published six days a week. The paper is located in northwest Arizona on the banks of the Colorado River, right across from casino town of Laughlin, Nev., and a mere 15 minutes from Lake Mohave; 45 minutes from Lake Havasu; 90 minutes from Las Vegas. There's a hotter place than Death Valley and the Mohave Desert

That would be pretty cool to cover the off-road racing. ESPN brings Wednesday and Friday night fights there a whole bunch so that would be good to cover if you are into the boxing scene.

 

I just put my application in. Oh, not with the Mohave Valley Daily News, but Appalachian State. It's just that hot.

 

45 minutes from Lake Havasu? 90 minutes from Las Vegas? That's some kind of temptation there...

Not to mention Tahoe ... only 20 minutes.

 

I used to work at the Daily News. It has had its problems in the past with a absentee sports editor, but he is not around any more.

Wayne Agner, who took over as ME in 2005, is working hard to turn this paper around.

Yes, it is in the middle of the desert, but it's a good place for someone to get their feet wet.

You have to be wary of places like this when you're a young guy or gal. Realize that it is in the middle of nowhere, so no one is going to see your clips. Also, think about the quality of life. Do you really want to spend 2-3 years of your early 20s in such a place? Obviously your not going to be living in a great area that early into your career, but Laughlin/Mohave area really blows. Yes Vegas in 90 minutes away, but you will not have the money to enjoy that luxury very often. There are positives though. The adventure of moving all the way to AZ, and the difference in culture.
