And Boom never rooted for Clemens when he was helping the Yankees win the 2000 WS and get to the WS in 2001 and 2003.

Rooted for the Yankees but not Clemens - to bad we lost our older sj archives. I was all over the Verducci /Clemens / Mcmamee connection when story came out in 2003. Most here were very defensive of Verducci

Manipulative big-business hustlers are more sophisticated than they were fifty years ago.

It's a good thing that the general public's upper crust (including our best reporters)
have narrowed the sophistication gap vis a vis the MBBH's during that time, as well.

And the readers of those top reporters are the better for it.

I can't speak to what's inside of Boom's mind, or what he was or was not feeling while smoking fancy cigars on his couch while watching Clemens pitch in pinstripes, but I will say I think he's been pretty consistent with his dislike (or ambivalence at best) toward Rajah over the years. I remember much of it dating all the way back to SportsJournalists.com's outlaw days.

Joe McCarthy and all his henchmen; the genesis of what became Richard Nixon ... blacklists, red-baiting, etc. ... the quiz-show cheating ... the CCNY point-shaving scandal ... segregation ... yeah, the '50s were absolutely, positively idyllic.

Liars, cheats and thieves have been part of the game -- and society -- forever.

Thanks DD / Cranberry for verifying. As far as what is in my head most of time its thoughts of 21. Other than that strange random thought float through such as why did the Yankee trade Ken Phelps for Jay Buhner or David Wells for Roger Clemens.

Since you have that Ken Phelps/Jay Buhner trade backwards, I assume 21 is making your head spin.

How does she have time for that while keeping creamora all atwitter?

Posting this comment about 24 hours after I should have, but...

The name that would have surprised me most to see on the list? (Former Yankee) Phil Niekro.

Well that's the oddest debut post ever.
