worst leads you have seen

Not really a lede, but my least favorite scoreline phrase has to be this: ... after a sluggish start, local U beat Podunk College 85-2. Well duh, anything is sluggish compared to the 83-point margin.

Also, anything that sounds kinda like: "Fans expected a rout. But instead, it was something or other..."

Don't tell me what you expected. Who cares?

 

On the cops beat (didn't make the paper): "All _____ wanted was a blowjob."

 

I think you've got the wrong thread. This is the WORST ledes of all time. Not the best.

That is a great lead. You know right away that something unpleasant is going to happen to that poor schlub.

I've got an all-time classic from about 10 years ago. I'll change the coach's name and school name to protect the guilty.

"When Cedar Rapids coach Sal Butera seen (sic -- and that isn't even the best part) his 1996 schedule, he literally had a heart attack."

A couple of my friends have always suggested the next graph should have been "Butera is resting comfortably at Shady Grove Baptist Hospital."

 

That could be its own thread -- bad uses of "literally."
