    At a bar watching H-M v. Edina and Duke-Carolina.

The H-M goalie has been really good and the end of the first was a great lesson in how nothing bad happens when you shoot on net.

There are abt 6 min to go in the third and it is 3-0 Hill-Murray.

We've gone final. H-M wins 3-0. The pioneers goalie gets two shutouts.

Wait a minute ... they get that kind of turnout at a HS hockey game, yet Tom Hicks could buy a team rooted in the Twin Cities and get it moved.

    Good grief ...

  4. Re: MN state hockey tournament - title game underway

Tom Hicks didn't buy the team until Norm Green had already bought it in Minnesota and moved it to Dallas. That still doesn't explain how Minnesota -- of all places -- could lose an NHL franchise, just two years after reaching the Stanley cup finals. Ridiculous.

I stand corrected. So Tom Hicks didn't buy it until after it was moved to the Metroplex.

But still ... all the grunt work and stupidity that Gary Bettman has poured into blocking an organization move from Nashville to Hamilton, yet someone was allowed to move a team from a hockey-mad hotbed like the Twin Cities to the Metroplex? Pardon my Spock, but that's just not logical ...

Good job by HM. Beat the two top rated teams in the state for the title. The goalie played outstanding. He was in position for every shot and made the save.

Louie didn't need to tell us Edina would be back in the finals next year because they lose only a couple of players. HM won the game. Talk about them, not next year.

It's not logical in the slightest. It was typical billionaire owner BS where Green wanted a new stadium, didn't get it and followed through on this threat to bolt. It was also interesting that at the time he was facing sexual harrassment charges from a female employee in the North Stars office.
But to play devil's advocate: The move has actually paid off quite well for the NHL (one of the few, IMHO). Dallas has been a runaway success and has a Cup to its name, while Minnesota landed a new franchise that has sold out every game it has played in one of the best arenas in the league.
Still doesn't take away the sting I felt when the North Stars were stolen from us.

Man, I can't believe I missed this whole thread...but then again I haven't posted on SJ for awhile.

One of my favorite moments in Minnesota hockey was the night I worked at the Xcel for the Wild's first home game against the Flyers....During a pre-game ceremony Bettman was booed and a Norm Green sucks chant rang out. Then Bettman said the NHL was wrong for leaving, which drew one of the loudest cheers I've ever heard. Probably the only time he's ever admitted the NHL being wrong about something. Then, I went back to work as a hot dog vendor. Good times.

I've been at my new job for a little less than a year, covering all kinds of sports in northern Minnesota. It's a good gig, but one of the treats this winter has been covering good hockey. The team in my town is a step short of awful, but I've seen Roseau, Moorhead, Warroad International Falls and many others this season.

    My observations-

    1. Roseau was the best team in the state. Sorry H-M. You won state because your goalie showed up.

    2. Warroad: Highly, Highly overrated this year.

    3. Section 1 hockey might as well be Iowa hockey.

    4. Anoka would have had a better shot in the state quarters than Cloquet, by the way, the section alignments are terrible now!

    5. Moorhead is a damn good team. Too bad they have to go through Roseau every year now.

    6. International Falls' Jake Youso is the best HS player in Minnesota. Even better than Ness. Better skating ability (read insane fast) and a natural-goal scorer. I saw both Ness and Youso this year and don't get me wrong, Ness is oustanding. But be ready to hear about this Youso kid. Had he not played in International Falls, more would know about him. Since he's going to the Gophers, everyone will know him next year. He scored 4 in the game I saw...2 came on the power play, 1 was short-handed breakaway.

    7. Start a private school tournament.

    8. I can't wait for the WCHA Final Five!

Oh slap, Norm Green Sucks never gets old...I still can hear the chant ringing through the Met Center just like it was yesterday. A while back I googled Norm and found a pic of a fan in the stands at the Met with a sign that said it. Of couse, now I can't find it to link it. KARE did a piece on him a couple of weeks ago they should be ashamed of. Norm's still Norm, which was nice to see.

North61, did you see the Roseau play HM and BSM? It was a lot more than the HM goalie. Roseau had a good season, but they were not the best team. The best team won state.

I've heard Ness might have played hurt. Maybe a knee. Rosie, you hear that?

"You'd have to be an idiot to lose money on hockey in Minnesota." - Norm Green

    Yes Norm, you would be.
