OK, I thought scare tactics were a Republican invention?

Scare tactics? What the hell are you talking about?

Well, let's see . . . making it sound as if cutting the income tax will mean no more money for police, fire, schools or road repairs sounds pretty scary to me.

I'm sorry, do state taxes not go toward streets, schools, and local fire/police departments?

    They do.

But what you're trying to say is that without the money they steal from my paycheck each week, they won't be able to run the state. In the words of Joe Biden - that is complete and utter bullshit.

This is using scare tactics to make people believe the state will go down the shitter without the income tax. It is exactly what every official on Beacon Hill is trying to pull.

It is flat out a lie.

Don't tell me what I'm "trying to say," Drew Carey. I don't try to say things, I say them.

First, you make this "scare tactic" claim, then use the word "steal," a crime, to refer to taxes. Hypocritical, much?

I'm sure there are people who would happily allocate their money to things like roads, schools, and police/fire without taxes. And there are others who wouldn't. That's just a fact. In a perfect world, everyone would donate their money to such endeavors. In this world, I'd be hard-pressed to believe it would even be 50-50.

Of course, I have no model to definitively back my assumption. Then again, you don't either, to call it "a lie," considering public programs have been funded through taxes since the inception of our nation.

Here is how I would change income tax --

I'd outlaw the practice of withholding taxes and I'd outlaw the practice of tacking sales tax on to the price of a product.

Instead, everything a person purchases would be added up and at the end of the year each person would get two bills -- one for sales tax and one for all of their other income taxes, including SSI, state and local taxes.

That would last all of one year before people would vote every Republican and Democrat out of office and threaten to send any politician who wants to raise taxes to the firing squad.

Imagine the tax increase we'd need to tabulate everything everyone bought in a year. Oh the irony.

Interesting. I like that much, much better than the concept of simply abolishing taxes and leaving everyone to their device. How would you enforce it: government tabs on purchases, or is everyone responsible for keeping all receipts on his/her purchases?

Just curious, what do taxes have to do with veep picks?

Simple -- everyone has a card, similar to a credit card --- that gets swiped every time they make a purchase (no card, no purchase) -- and all it does is electornically keep a tab as to how much has been spent and the totals are tabulated in a database.....

Uh huh. And as a "conservative," giving the government this level of control and information about the purchases one is making would be totally OK with you?
