Of those on TV right now, I think Harmon may have made the most impressive transformation. I never would have thought he would have been able to pull off a tough guy role, but he does it really well on NCIS.

He always seemed to play the pretty boy before.

Sure, if you disregard the giant picture of him in about the 9th post on page 1 :D

I think there was a picture of him back on the first page.

As for Tony Danza, there was a scene in "Crash" with him talking to a director about the nuances of acting that I found really funny.

Well, the writers did try to make it all up to him at the end with Charlotte Ross (YUM). But Franz really was excellent in the role.

I should have been more specific in the first post (I thought "greatest'' actors was pretty explanatory, though). I also included multiple show actors like Hagman and Shatner as examples of the type with multiple shows who I thought didn't qualify - everyone's welcome to their opinion.)

Two more names that have slipped by: Kate Jackson and Robert Conrad.

Ok, so my final top 5 (as of now) would be:

Lucille Ball, Dennis Weaver, Michael Landon, Carroll O'Connor and Andy Griffith.

Honorable mention to : Bill Cosby, Bea Arthur (in addition to her regular roles, she had one of my favorite guest appearances on Malcolm in the Middle), James Garner, and Michael J. Fox.

How about a list for those of us who are under 70? :D

Surprised to see no love for Peter Krause. Sports Night, Six Feet Under, Dirty Sexy Money -- that's pretty stout.

Staying with Sports Night, Felicity Huffman's done pretty damn well.

The really impressive ones are the ones who have multiple shows in syndication.

It doesn't always mean they're the best actors, but they're usually the ones who are set for life regardless what happens.

I read somewhere that David Spade makes a couple million a year just based on the syndication of Just Shoot Me and 8 Simple Rules.

I can only imagine what Kelsey Grammar gets from Cheers and Frasier.

What about Steve Carell? He was the best "correspondent" on the Daily Show and we all love The Office.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned him yet.
