Maybe it's the video, but I always think of summer when I hear 311's "Amber."

This is a nice summer song, but it serves fine in fall, too:

    And here's an oldie-but-moldy:

Love the white-man Afros and the porkchop sideburns

These date me, but here goes:

    Under the Boardwalk, The Drifters

All Summer Long, the Beach Boys

See You in September, The Happenings

It Might As Well Rain Until September, Carole King

For some reason, when I think of summer songs, I think of the mid-to-late '90s. The first one that pops into my mind is "Semi-Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind. I also always get an urge to listen to Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream" when the weather starts to warm up.

This year's big summer album for me is going to be The Hold Steady's "Stay Positive," which coincidentally starts with a song called "Constructive Summer," in which the chorus is "We're gonna build something this summer ..."

These two tunes have nothing to do with summer, but they're a pair of relatively new, rocking ones I've been listening to a bunch lately:

"No Hiding Place" -- Elvis Costello
    "Supernatural Superserious" -- REM

Good call on See You in September.

The summer before I went away to college, there was a car TV commerical that would play that song. I always think of that last summer before I moved out into the college world.

Martha & The Vandella's "Dancing in the Street" All time favourite.

    And, to show my age

California Dreamin', Mamas & the Papas

    California Girls, Beach Boys

Summer in the City, Lovin Spoonful

Paradise by the Dashboard Light Meatloaf

    Brown Eyed Girl, Van Morrison

And I hate to admit it but I turned 20 in 1969 and those WERE the best days of my life (well, up until then, anyway)

    Summer of 69, Bryan Adams

    "C'mon Caroline" - Bobby Bandiera

  12. Thanks for some great suggestions I'd forgotten...I wasn't looking for songs that specifically mentioned summer, but some of those certainly qualify. And some I haven't heard, but will check out - Bobby Bandiera I saw once with Bruce I think.

Some songs just seem to feel like summer - you can hear them in the winter years later and they'll bring you back to the beach. Some of that Beach Boys stuff make me wish I was old enough to be on the beach surfing at the time that they were all over the radio.

I love a cover of "Pretty Flamingo" I have by Springsteen and some surf music - "The Lonely Surfer." But also feel like it with some Mighty Mighty Bosstones and definitely "Sell Out" by Reel Big Fish.
