I decided to fill a gaping hole in my bookcase by reading The Great Gatsby this week.

I was about 35 pages into Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals," when I went to Costco the other day and found Jeff Shaara's "The Steel Wave" on sale.

It's the second in his WW II trilogy. So, figuring that "Team" isn't going anywhere, I dived into Shaara. Quicker read.

  3. Been re-reading Mosley's Easy Rawlins series as of late.

A strong mix of page-turning mystery and social commentary, without the latter hitting the reader over the head with the Hammer of Obviousness.

I strongly recommend the entire series.

Anybody read this? I saw it at an airport bookstore and almost picked it up.

    Still want to. Worth it?

I started this one yesterday, and it's really funny. I was reading in bed last night and woke up Mrs. Flip a couple of times with my laughing.

I'm still waiting for someone to check back in the new Willie Nelson bio; it's now seven days overdue.

Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72...Hunter S. Thompson's a lunatic throughout. More recently, World War Z by Max Brooks was one of those good "out-there" novels.

Just finished Howard Frank Mosher's "On Kingdom Mountain." Great little book-he's such a natural writer, and he has an incredibly astute sense of place for New England, and especially Vermont.

    Definitely recommend it.

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism by Naomi Klein. Nearly finished with Ring of Hell.

Read S Is for Silence by Sue Grafton. Liked the new technique for her of switching between giving accounts from back in time and telling of Kinsey's search for facts, seeing how close or far off she is. Tho Grafton did kinda telegraph the top two suspects while trying to imply a bigger pool. It is refreshing to see someone investigate without the Internet.

What about T Is for Trespass? Any good?

Bad news on Krakauer's upcoming book on Pat Tillman. Delayed indefinitely as he's not happy with the manuscript.
