I know Newsday paid for relocation a couple of years ago, so if it's true they no longer do this it's a recent policy change.

I've worked for a handful of papers at desk jobs and all of them have included no-frills relocation packages in the job offer. With newspaper budgets as they are, it wouldn't totally surprise me that this will no longer be standard. Especially in New York where the design talent pool runs deep, why fork out an extra few grand to move some joker from, say, Texas?

That said, if you get the opportunity to work at Newsday, you should absolutely do everything you can to make that happen. There are exceptional people there doing exceptional work.

NYT and Newsday definitely paid for relocation --- at least as recently as a few months ago.

This is so very, very true.
