The ex dilemma

I was in a 12 year relationship when he all of a decided to leave. Never got a good reason, so to this day I blame it on a mid-life crisis.

It took me over a year to get over it. Then he moved to Florida, which was the best thing that could ever happen.

Two years later, he knows I'm going to the Keys for vacation, and he says he wants to drive 5 hours to see me.

    Most nervous I've ever been.

Long story short, neither of us ever went into another relationship. And now we have this hot and heavy thing happening every couple of months. It's not the ideal situation, but it's okay for now.

Like Songbird said, if you don't love her with every fiber of your being, don't do it.

I decided I did, so I did it. You gotta follow your heart even though your head wants to smack you upside it.

I broached. She gently but firmly (is that possible?) said that's not in the cards at this time. Which was actually helpful.

    You are an idiot.

I'm assuming the two of you had conversations about marriage that ended in you saying "I'll do it when I'm ready."

In the meantime, while you get ready, she's facing a ton of pressure from family and friends. Maybe she's the bridesmaid in her sister's wedding or she's attending wedding and baby showers every other weekend and deflecting questions about when it will be her turn. She's ready, she wants to get married, but she's waiting on you.

And while you get ready, you forget that she's ready. And you plan this party with all her friends and a BIG SURPRISE, not giving thought to the fact that she wants to get married. You could have done a lot of pre-damage control by addressing her feelings and saying the party wasn't going to be about that. I guarantee she would have handled it better. But you forgot.

I totally understand why she started checking out after that party.

If "getting women" was a criteria for marriage, I'm not sure there would be any weddings.

Other than the regular reader-submission features and Word Power, it's pretty reactionary stuff that I read to avoid becoming infuriated.
