I was under the impression that Cox had rescued Rocky Mount from the clutches of Lord Thomson.

That's correct. That the Telegram has gone from the clutches of the idiots running Thomson to its current standing is remarkable.

Now ... to hope that Greenville, Elizabeth City and Rocky Mount don't take a trip down due to an incompetent takeover ...

Probably what would happen is they take Marshall weekly and expand Longview's coverage.

Welcome, Cox folks, to the Island of Misfit Journalists. Hell, it's now a whole continent.

Speaking of Wehco Media, which someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the Little Rock operation came out several months ago and said they were interested in buying the three Landmark dailies (Greensboro, Roanoke, Virginia). We haven't heard anything since other than the usual rumors. Wehco doesn't have any N.C. holdings.

Good luck to the folks in Greenville, Rocky Mount and E-City. I know it's not a fun time for you.

  5. I worked briefly for one of those Cox shops...er..."advertising-supported media companies" out East Texas way.

Only place in 18 years of work where I actually got a Christmas bonus.

    That is all.

From the folks I know at Palm Beach, they still got a Christmas bonus last year -- wasn't much, but, it was something. Also, they were saying new printing presses costing somewhere close to $10 million are on the way in. Seems they were ordered a while back and they're supposed to be able to handle a lot more color. I'm sure that's a great comfort to the 100 or so who took the buyout and the bare-bones production staff left in the building.

Same thing in Atlanta. I'm not sure when, but new presses that are supposed to be better for color are ordered.

Rocky Mount got a christmas bonus last year. If I remember correctly, it was a week's pay.
