You really think he would ditch his VP? I can't see that. He's getting a ton of juice out of this selection.

There's also a difference between a lack of experience and still having views and plans on Iraq, Afghanistan, Darfur, Georgia, Russia, The EU, etc.. Should anything happen to McCain -- yeah, he's old -- I would like to know that she's informed about how the world works, like Obama is.

Palin is a good pick because, really, there were so many bad choices out there and she brings something to the ticket. (And might even grab some Hillary-crazed Democrats.) But if McCain attacks Obama on inexperience, he's going to come across as disingenuous given this selection.

I ask this question of SJGOP:

Is there any chance Palin gets picked if she wasn't a woman?

Come on, this is too good to languish on the last post of the page.

How can McCain say Obama is too inexperienced, but Palin is experienced enough to be VP -- and implicitly President.

How can McCain say Obama doesn't have enough foreign policy experience, but Palin has enough to be VP -- and implicitly President.

    Does not compute.

Three hours after the fact, sure. Give it a week, and let people figure out who she is and isn't. I don't think he'd just up and ditch her. But I wouldn't be surprised to see a "family emergency" or some such.

As far as shock value goes, this is a brilliant pick.

If he is elected, I wonder if he'll pay her the same rate as a man. ;D

Honestly though, there is a small part of me that is happy. No matter who wins, it will be the first African-American or woman in the White House. This is a barrier-breaking campaign.

When it's November, how much weight do the VP candidates have on voters?

    Exactly. Zero.

I suspect they thought this choice would exploit the schism that developed in the democratic base between the Hillary and Obama folks. And, as Starman pointed out, that's gonna blow up in their faces.
