Three point lead this early is very good news for the U.S. Doesn't guarantee anything, obviously, but they have putted very, very well today, and are going to make a serious run at this.

There were a few shakies on each side (Curtis, Furyk of all people, Garcia, Jimenez, who may be done), but overall I thought there was a high level of play on both sides. Entertaining matches. Tomorrow could swing the other way quite easily. Or not.

I think Jiminez will be ok. He's so unflappable that normally he can put a bad day behind him easily, just have a drink and a smoke, and get back out there.

Furyk may be struggling due to his wife's current state.

I know that was yesterday, but if it's lingering, it could be hard to focus completely.

Didn't know about that. Now I feel like an ass.

I dig the best ball format - nice to see guys who usually play quite cautiously when it's their own money on the line gunning for the pins.
I understand the captains want to be updated on what's going on (which explains the radio), but isn't there a small TV they could carry? And even with the info, what do the captains DO during the matches anyway, they can't coach right?

They can come in and talk to their players during play, it looked like Faldo was even giving advice to McDowell late on in their match this evening.

Mostly, though, it's pep talks, letting them know how well their teammates are doing, or letting them know how vital their match is thanks to others performances.

Faldo's going to get skewered for this one: Both Garcia and Westwood on the sidelines for tomorrow morning's foursomes.

Unbelievable. I wonder what Sergio will say now since he always claims it's all about the team. I bet he's steaming. What a stupid move by Faldo.

His drives are amazing, but I'm not sure I've ever seen him do anything productive with his second shots. So many of them today were from awkward distances -- 60-70 yards -- that he'd probably be better off hitting a 3-wood.

If sitting Sergio and Lee doesn't work out for the Euros, it might top Hall Sutton's pairing of Tiger and Phil for the dumbest panic maneuver in recent Ryder Cup history.

  12. What's the format on Sunday?

    One-on-one?
