The ACC is just a mess.

I should have just had the #21 team be ACC 1 and the #25 be ACC 2.

    Every week they reshuffle teams.

FWIW, I put Central Michigan in my poll, and not 24/25th. (No, I did not attend CMU.)

The best team in Michigan by two touchdowns. Not like that's some terrifically big deal. ;) ;)

But what about Okie's loss to Texas, who you have below them? :D

Glad to see I'm not the only one who gave Texas Tech a No. 1 vote.

Dumbass was on the board this morning and didn't send in his ballot. Am finishing up the story now and assembling the poll.
And when the poll is posted, he's going to look like a bigger fucktard for not voting.

Figuring the odds on heading to Miami

It is appropriate that on this Election Day eve, we also consider a bigger picture. No, we’re not talking about Phil Fulmer’s profile as it squeezes through the door at the end of the season (or Tom Amstutz for that matter).

We’re talking about polls and votes and how it affects your quality of life. Are you happy because your team is winning, happier because it is ranked, or happiest because Michigan, Auburn, Tennessee are imploding in front of your very eyes?

Just like knowing that your favorite candidate has a shot at winning, knowing your favorite team has a shot at a larger goal can improve your quality of life. Conversely, knowing your least favorite team or candidate has a chance to succeed can turn your innards into a mass of bile and festering hate before your time. (So unless you want to turn into a bitter, old pony, don’t do that.)

So we here at Slappyland and poll central want to help. We’re going to take an honest, realistic look at the seven teams with a shot at the title – maybe eight if Okie State dumps No. 1 Texas Tech on Saturday (How many of you thought you’d ever read that?). And with apologies to Utah, Boise State and TCU, one of you might get into a BCS game, but not that BCS game.

-- ALABAMA (9-0): The Tide have shot from unranked to unbeaten on the strength of two things – the reputation of a coach who wins and a buttery-soft non-conference schedule. While the SEC is the greatest conference in recorded civilization, it’s also one that had Bammer play one tough road opponent and three patsies. Naturally, the Tide was more impressive against the tough team than it was the patsies. If they can get past Saturday and an LSU team that Florida beat by 30, they’ll head to Atlanta unbeaten. They still go brain-dead at times on defense and having this quarterback lead your team is a lot like having Braden Looper as the ace of your pitching staff. But they go to Atlanta with a shot at Miami. ODDS: 6-1.

-- FLORIDA (7-1): So the Gators had that little one-point hiccup against Ole Miss. At home. It’s not like anyone saw it, since The Daves did the game. Since then, they’ve won by an average of 42.6 points against three teams that Alabama beat by an average of 16 points. Everyone knows about this Tebow guy and how just wonderful he is (mom shoulda had twins… ), but the defense gives up just nine points a game in its wins. Funny thing is, any one of the two remaining SEC games could be traps as could Florida State. But this team is the favorite to win the SEC; whether it wins its last four is another story. ODDS: 8-1.

-- PENN STATE (9-0): Yeah, we know what you’re thinking – “not another Big Ten team!” Bitch all you want because the Nittany Lions have probably the best chance at finishing unbeaten of the top three teams. Iowa could trap them and this is just the kind of stupid Michigan State team to pull off an upset (if Indiana beats Penn State, however, JoePa needs to retire now). Laugh all you want at the Big Ten, how it isn’t strong as other conferences and those uniforms. But Penn State has beaten more teams ranked at the time they played than Alabama and beat a pretty good Oregon State team. The Nittany Lions finish unbeaten, but as we learned from Auburn in 2004, that doesn’t mean a thing. ODDS: 10-1.

-- USC (7-1): Remember them? The best team not only in college football but in the NFL? That team? W-e-l-l, that team still has the best team that Friends of Reggie Bush can find. It just got drilled early at Oregon State and couldn’t come back, then struggled with Arizona. The Trojans still have the best talent in college football, but play only one ranked team down the stretch. They should tear up Notre Dame and UCLA; everyone thinks Cal might pull off an upset, but if any team gets them, it’s Stanford. ODDS: 25-1.

--TEXAS (8-1): Welcome to vintage Mack Brown football. Or Watson Brown… one of the two. All the Longhorns had to do was get through Texas Tech – a team it hasn’t lost to since 2002 and had a 42-14 edge against. But nooooo, the Longorias displayed a remarkable inability to play defense – especially on the last drive when they dropped two would-be interceptions thrown in the numbers, had a defensive back quit on a play, thereby leaving the other DB to try and tickle the receiver into submission (it didn’t work). If they win out (Baylor, A&M, Kansas) and get help from Oklahoma against Texas Tech, Texas can head to the Big 12 title game. ODDS: 9-2

--TEXAS TECH (9-0): Beating Texas at home is special. Beating Okie State would be special. Beating Oklahoma in Normal would be special. Get the point? (Cause beating Baylor is no big deal.) The Red Raiders have a hell of an offense, but a defense that has only held one opponent to single digits (and it wasn’t Eastern Washington or Nevada). Great win, big boost, enjoy it now. The defense buckles in one of the next two games (Mike Leach blames the officials) and the Red Raiders head to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl. ODDS: 15-1.

-- OKLAHOMA (8-1): Even with the likes of Chattanooga and Washington on the sked, the Boomed Sooners still have the toughest schedule among the candidates, having beaten TCU (its only loss) and Kansas (there is that Texas thingy) while closing out at home with Texas Tech and at Okie State. As with most Big 12 teams, offense leads the way because the defense can’t. My gut feeling is that Texas Tech catches them at home, but screws them both.: ODDS: 15-1.
