There aren't enough bullets around to shoot everyone who never called LSU's former baseball coach, Stanley J. Bertman, anything but Skip. Jesus Muscatel, many others on this board and I would have been shot full of holes a long time ago.

How do we feel about PhDs who insist on being called Doctor?

That's a fair point. That might be my only exception.

The whole coach thing is kind of funny. Coaches all refer to each other as "coach" a lot and seem to regard it as a title of honor. I know a knucklehead who used to coach in the local rec basketball league I coached in who used to call all the other coaches "coach" and seemed to expect it in return. It wasn't like he didn't know their names; he would introduce them to other people as Coach Whatevertheirnamewas. Just wierd.

The only times I use the whole "Coach" thing are when A) I don't know the person well enough to call them by their first name and B) When I worked a college camp last summer. There, everybody called eveybody who was instructing players "coach." The players who were on staff seemed to really like it when you called them "coach." It was kind of funny actually. These were kids who I have covered during the season calling me "coach." Made me chuckle.

I'd like to see what would happen if a reporter called the president something other than "Mr. President" in a formal setting or probably any setting for that matter.
