Do you have a passion for writing? Is your knowledge of sports great enough to provide readers with the in-depth coverage they crave? If so, you might be the next addition to the News-Sun sports department. The Hobbs News-Sun, a 10,500 circulation, six-day a week newspaper in Hobbs, N.M., is seeking a sportswriter to add to its award-winning staff. The News-Sun three-person sports staff covers five area high schools, as well as a junior college and an NAIA college. In a coverage area of 50,000 people, prep and small college sports are king, and we cover them accordingly. Teams in the coverage area, which include the nationally renowned Hobbs High School boys basketball program and junior college baseball power New Mexico Junior College, are competitive and regularly compete in the state playoffs in most sports. The successful applicant will be expected to write weekly features and columns, as well as provide strong insight and analysis on teams in his or her beat. Experience working with Quark Xpress is a plus. Experience at a weekly or small daily newspaper is preferred, but not required. This position is ideal for recent college graduates who are looking for experience and are willing to be an integral part of our ever-improving sports section.

Send cover letter, resume and clips to: Jon Roetman Sports Editor Hobbs News-Sun 201 N. Thorp St Hobbs, NM 88240 or E-Mail to sportseditor@hobbsnews.com

    Oh, another one? ;D

I'll say what I've said on the other Hobbs threads ... the sports editor is a great guy to work with, as is the person that would be your other coworker in the sports department.

Hobbs is BFE ... spitting distance from the Texas state line. A little less than 2.5 hours to Lubbock and nearly six to Albuquerque.

Just heard Hobbs' loss is the Denton's gain. Will check on that.

Wow, that guy wasn't there that long. Didn't he just get hired earlier this summer when the other guy went to Amarillo?

Yes, 'gola, and yes, the kid from Hobbs went to Denton.

They need someone soon, as they're already down to two. Any December grads want a job the day they get their diploma (if there are any j majors left out there)?

Hobbs smells like the interior of the Exxon tiger's rectum.

I was offered a job there a few years back, but turned it down for a better deal closer to home. No question Jon would be an awesome guy to work for. The managing editor was also good people.

While it is true that Hobbs as a town isn't much to brag about, the thing that impressed me about the area was how crazy the people were for their sports. If you're a new or recent grad, at least you'll be covering big games and writing stories that people will read. Always good to have an audience...
