Methinks the NCAA wouldn't look too favorably on his gambling ... just a hunch ...

    Nutt or Petrino to AU?

This has the makings of a bad comedy.

Perhaps he has a son with AIDs or a wife who cheated on him.

I'll start the Jon Gruden to Auburn rumors. For no other reason than Gruden seems to be linked to every big time college football opening.

  5. Yes, he has, but I don't get that.

Gruden has never struck me as a college coach.

Yeah, I'm not buying this either. I said it on the Tennessee thread when he was rumored there, and I'll say it here. I don't think Gruden would be much for recruiting. If Monte Kiffin does move on to be with his son in Knoxville, he'll promote someone like Raheem Morris to DC, and everything should continue on as far as the Bucs defense is concerned.

He's got it too good with his buddy Bruce Allen as the GM in Tampa to go to be a college coach.

If Lowder is indeed involved again somehow, Auburn is going to come thisclose again to losing its accreditation.

I agree. And not only that, but when has he EVER developed a quarterback? He had Rich Gannon in Oakland, and he has been most successful in Tampa with Brad Johnson, Brian Griese and Jeff Garcia. He couldn't do anythign with Chris Simms or Bruce Gradkowski. Maybe those weren't the best prospects in the world, but it seems like he prefers polished veterans to plug into his system rather than teaching it to young kids and grooming them to be stars. He lets someone else do all the work. Same thing with wideouts--right now he's got Joey Galloway and Antonio Bryant, and Michael Clayton has not turned into anything. Before even considering whether he'd have the patience to recruit, as you said, it appears that even if he did it wouldn't matter. I just don't see why he's such a highly-regarded offensive mind.

Granted, I know the administration has turned over since the Petrino debacle five years ago, but you don't regain the trust of a coach after a stunt like that.

Last year, the Arkansas opening resulted in several coaches getting raises to stay where they were. Seems the Auburn opening is doing it too.
