Not sure I agree about Reynolds, whom I've always liked as a studio host. Who would you have chosen?

    Where's the crack research staff?
Watched the 1986 retrospective Saturday, and once again, we're led to believe Dave Henderson's homer in the ninth inning of Game 5 of the ALCS won the game. (It did NOT.)
Not exactly ancient history being flubbed here.

I don't know who I would have chosen. Charlie Steiner? going for that ESPN redux, ala NFL

  4. I like Charlie Steiner a lot, but I don't think he could be the voice of a new network successfully. They needed someone younger and hipper to gain a younger audience, and they got that in Harold Reynolds. I do wish they would nab Steiner though. He would definately add to the Network. If for no other reason then him losing it live on the air.

I also have gotten it free as part of my digital cable from the first day. I am really looking forward to the season, and I like most of the studio analysts. I disagree with those who say Reynolds isn't a good pick to be the face of the network.
I am a bit tired of seeing recent World Series games, but the original shows I have seen have been pretty good. I caught a couple of episodes of Prime 9 last night, and it was decent. I'm just glad to have another channel to turn to when I get tired of ESPN (which is happening more quickly every day).
I am really excited about the possibilities with this station. They say they have exclusive cameras in every stadium and will have live look-ins throughout the night, and I can't wait to see their wall-to-wall studio coverage.

Here's what I've liked so far:

"Prime 9" — a countdown show that deals with a different category every episode, such as "Top Rookie Seasons" or "Top Home Runs"

"Seasons" — a one-hour recap of a different season every episode, so far they've done 1995 and 1986 that I've seen

"Hot Stove" — sounds like it deals exclusively with transactions, but is actually their flagship news show, a la "Baseball Tonight"

If they do it right, with lots of live look-ins, their nightly studio show is going to rock. They started a Strike Zone channel as part of the Extra Innings package a couple years ago -- like the Red Zone channel on Sunday Ticket. They bounce from game to game and show what's going on -- key player at bats, rallies, etc. I'm hoping the MLB Net coverage will be something like that. If it's hour after hour of talking heads blathering and not enough of a look at what's happening in real time, it'll suck. Here's hoping they avoid that.

MLB Network will have cameras in every stadium and be able to do live look-ins whenever it wants. The in-season nightly show will be a lot more than talking heads.
