Enterprise editor Jay Young, one of the best journalists I've worked with, was let go in Altoona, Pa.

Say what you will about the Nuttings, they have been very patient through this storm and haven't been walking people out the door the way other chains have. They've let their publishers have more control over the product -- except (usually) for the pay scale.

True on both accounts; for an extra 3.50 a week once, the publisher had to go to the regional VP who took about three seconds to say "of course, why are you bothering me with 3.50?"
But it's also because there hasn't been much fat in the Oggie budget

I interviewed at an Ogden paper once. The editor and publisher were pretty up front. "We don't have the biggest budgets in the world, but we never lay people off." So much for that.

Warren (Ohio) Tribune-Chronicle recently had a round of layoffs

No word on how many, but here's a link that says a photographer was let go.

But Warren needs a sports editor.

Where did the sports editor in Warren go, or was he laid off?
