JC used to be a rough town; I don't know if it's cleaned up in the last 15 years.

It's an Army town, for what it's worth, right outside Fort Riley.

But it's only about 10 miles from Manhattan and 60 from Topeka.

Damn, that pay is low, especially if you're experienced.

A ton of turnover here, from the top of the newsroom down.

I thought my pay was bad. Geez.

Didn't someone refer to the place as "Junk City"?

Even if I wanted that job, that's a cut in pay for me (not a lot, but until I saw that, I didn't think I made very much).

You probably couldn't pay me enough to live in Junction City

$20,000 per year is $9.61 per hour (40 hrs/wk @52 wks per year).

If you get this job -- do you get to watch endless loops of "The Junction Boys" - because if so, where do I apply?...... ;)

I had to drive through there once. It was one of only two places I've ever been where I felt uncomfortable being there in broad daylight.

The other was Prospect Ave. in KCMO.

$20,000 year = shitty apartment living. Now that I make some real scratch, I'm buying a house. Heloooooooooo $8,000 tax credit!

Not all apartments are shitty. mine certainly isn't. If you are a single person without kids or pets, apartments can be fine. There's not a hell of a lot of difference between an apartment and a condo in terms of the actual building.

That said, if one WANTS to buy a house and has the cash to do so, this seems to be a good time to buy.
