If Yount was never in the starting lineup, why would he have to sit out the game? Like Longoria, he should have been available from off the bench.

Great point. Hideki Matsui's streak was ended when he snapped his wrist in six pieces in the top of the first, so even playing the field in the top of the first wouldn't have been enough to keep Cal's streak intact.

Then again, if that happened to Cal, Peter Angelos would have turned the sprinklers on, flooded the field and forced a postponement, like he did when Cal caught Kevin Costner teaching Kelly about his love of the game. :D :D :D

Really, really liking those Orioles road unis, with the script "Baltimore" and the Maryland flag patch on the right shoulder.

Too bad they still play like the damn St. Louis Browns.

It's Joe Maddon channeling Tony La Russa.

Tony liked the idea of the pitcher hitting third, expect to see it in his lineup.

KC managed to start a game hitting out of order a few years back. They got saddled with one out before a pitch was ever thrown.

It was something like that. Maybe he wrote Yount twice instead of Young, but whatever the deal was, Yount had to sit out the game.

I'm sick and tired of seeing this bullshit passed off as fact.

Angelos screwed with the lights. It was an electrical postponement.

You beat me to this. I'm pretty sure he wrote Yount in twice, so when he came to the plate the first time, he was ejected for 'batting out of order.'

I've never seen Robin Yount so pissed off as he was when he got kicked out of that game...

You get ejected for batting out of order? Also, why would the 1st time be out of order?

I guess, theoretically, if you're batting third, and you're also penciled in at 6th, you are batting out of order. Since you can't bat in both spots, once the card is turned in, you're screwed. At least that's my recollection...

Yount wasn't ejected, just removed from the game after one at bat. Brewers manager Tom Trebelhorn was kicked out, though. Check out the Tigers 3rd here:

Also, here's a history of teams batting out of turn. Any surprise that Dusty Baker is responsible for two of the most recent occurrences?
