Assistant editor needed for The Register & Bee, daily paper in Danville in beautiful Southside Virginia. Duties include working with reporters, assigning and editing stories, handling live web posting and other multimedia work. All page production is handled by a regional copy desk, freeing this editor up to handle content. We're looking for someone with several years reporting and editing experience at a daily newspaper. Robert's good people, who loves Mexican food. He really cares about Danville, which is why he's been at the R&B for a long, long time.

 

Whomever lands this gig will have some very big shoes to fill. The outgoing assistant editor, Charles Wilborn, did a little bit of everything and kept things running smoothly through a difficult transition period. Charles easily worked 60 hours a week, maybe more, and always took his job home with him (and even on vacation). He will definitely be missed in Danville.
In the interest of full disclosure, though, "beautiful Southside Virginia" is a bit of a stretch. Danville had double-digit unemployment even before the recession, and it's only gotten worse. I'm not discouraging anyone from going after this job; just do it with eyes wide open.
