I understand, completely, but I think the Indians are getting more in return than you think here. Buchholz is the name, but the consensus is Masterson is going to be an impact starter.

I agree. Frankly, he should be starting for the Sox right now anyway--Brad Penny is not very good. The kid has a nice sinker and had some success last year...he was moved to the pen out of necessity last season and Boston has too many starters now. He's young with the potential to be a good #3 starter. As for Hagadone...that fits with Shapiro's desire to get a high-upside project in the deal. And even though he's had Tommy John surgery, Hagadone is a hard-throwing 23-year-old lefty with high strikeout totals...he's maybe ready for a call-up in the middle of next year. And I'm sure the other player(s) involved will be solid, because the Sox have a really good system. So don't write this off immediately--as a Boston fan, I would have rather done a Buchholz for Martinez deal straight-up than this. I like Masterson a lot and hate to give him up.

Yes, I agree. Masterson is going to be a stud. His sinker is phenomenal, and Masterson's height allows him to get an extra drop on it.

Both Star-Telegram and Evan Grant have been reporting that Halladay will remain a Blow Jay.

French has been in the majors for more than half this season so far. He's been in the rotation for about 5-6 starts. And had a bullpen stint in mid-April.

About 30 innings, 3.30ish ERA, 1-2 record with two no decisions (one no decision was because Leyland took him out with two outs in the fifth and the Tigers leading).

Now, neither French or the A prospect were among the Top 10 minor league prospects.

God...that's just an awful, awful deal for the Indians, if it's true.

The guys they're getting are pretty good and should contribute as big leaguers, but how do you trade Martinez and not get Buchholz or another franchise anchor?

Infuckingexcusable. If Bud Selig wasn't the worst fucking commisioner in the history of the game, he'd force Larry Dolan to sell the Indians.

This trade's not bad, especially if the Tribe gets someone else out of it.

  8. I agree. In a way, Victor Martinez is a lot like Humberto Quintero.

    Wow. Just wow.

These last few days make it hard to be Tribe fan. Then again, everyday makes it hard. Ugh.

If that trade does happen, it would simply complete a terrible week of transactions for the Tribe.

They were just discussing this on MLB Network, but I was interested to hear what you guys thought of this.

If the Martinez deal goes through, that gives you Youklis, Lowell, LaRoche, Varitek and Martinez for three positions every day, four if Ortiz is taking a day off from DHing.

Is this going to work as far as keeping players happy with their at-bats, or is this going to turn into a headache for Francona as he has to try and keep everyone happy?

I think Victor is a bonafide sell-high candidate. If the Indians weren't planning on using him at catcher 90% of the time -- and based on his 47 games at first and 52 at catcher this season, they weren't -- his value goes way down. As a catcher he's dynamite. As a first baseman, he's the dynamite from ACME that blows up in Wile E. Coyote's face more often than not. He also turns 31 in December. It's all downhill from here for Victor.

The question then becomes can the Indians get proper value for him. It's telling that the one player currently on a big-league roster that the Tribe gets comes from trading Victor Martinez and not from Cliff Lee. Is Boston overvaluing Martinez? I think Masterson can join the Tribe's rotation immediately.
