SI wants to make coaches' ballots public

    Apologies if this is a DB ... Sports Illustrated will file FOIs to obtain 51 ballots (public unversities) in this year's coaches' poll. AFCA executive director Grant Teaff just cancelled his subscription. You go, SI.

    Old idea. Both AJC and Fort Worth did this five years ago.

    Sorry, but I beg to differ. FOIs for every coach's ballot every week? Can't say I remember that happening. Maybe asking for the final poll votes, but not every week.

    Considering that Steve Spurrier punted voting for the preseason all-SEC team and the flunky who got the task didn't vote for Tebow at quarterback, plus some of the blatant homer votes we've seen over the years when the final votes in the sports information directors, uh, coaches poll, have been released, I for one, do care.

    Curious what SI's legal theory is for this being FOIA-worthy.

    South Florida's coach posted his preaseason ballot on the school's athletic site.
