Actually it was 102.5 kilos or something around there. 226 pounds. Sorry about that.

Hey guys, newbie here! I've kind of hit a plateau in my training and I'm trying figure out a way to jazz up my routine. I've done bodyweight-only programs, boot-camp style programs, kettlebells, etc. I'm looking to do something new now. One thing I've never tried is a powerlifting-based routine. Is there a certain way to go about it as a beginner? I know a lot about training techniques and the like, but powerlifting is basically a mystery to me.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hey guys and gals ... been quite a while, I know, but I thought I'd share a couple things ...

I competed in and finished my first triathlon Sunday. It was distinctly awesome and, for some reason, I want to do more. Good stuff.

This Sunday, I start working with a coach/running group to train for my first half marathon, which is the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I've done a handful of (slow) 5Ks and one 10K before. As part of my training, I already have a 10K on the schedule in four weeks.

I've got plenty to keep me busy during this winter, too, including learning to properly swim so I can do even better in my next triathlon. Should be fun.

    Go fitness! :-D

Haven't visited this page in sometime, but it's time to check in.

I recently started this new workout routine called the P90X it's this hellish system that is supposed to get anyone in shape. The first week was very rough, but now I'm 16 days in and I'm already feeling like I'm getting back into great shape. I used to run cross country in high school, and then in college I was a workout warrior but when I got into the real world, I lost my muscle and gained some weight.

In any event, my body feels tired every day, but that's because I've already begun skipping the rest day each Sunday and just skip right to the next week. I've also already started adding 10-12 minutes of cardio to the end of the workouts. So far so good, it's going to mean I have about an extra 15-20 workouts over this 90 day span.

Tomorrow is triceps and back, plus some extra cardio and the ab workout. Should take nearly an hour and a half. The ab workout alone is 349 crunches. Ridiculous.

Anyway, I'm going to bed now. Can't tell you the last time I was in bed around or before 10, this is nuts.

Download the P90X. It's the best workout I've ever done.

Body weight based moves and free weights two days a week.
    Yoga one day a week.
    Cardio one day a week
    Plymometrics one day a week
Legs/back workout one day a week
    Abs every other day.

It's about as full of a body workout as you can get.

    Anybody done much with CrossFit?

A couple of friends of mind have gotten into it recently and they say it's pretty good stuff. I like doing body weight exercises, especially for the second day of the week on a specific body group. I may toy around with this.

Running, which was once nothing but a necessary evil chore done to finish a triathlon, is almost a joy now. And the pace is really improving.

Last night just before work, I had a 45-minute window and after a short warm up I pushed the pace to 11mph (according to the Garmin 405 watch) and cranked out a 5k in, for me, record time.

I've got another 70.3 tri this weekend and hope to slice 45 minutes off my time from June. Five minutes on the swim -- just staying in a straight line would do that -- and 20 minutes off both the bike and run. Without any hills or pouring rain, the bike should be easy. And without a groin injury, the run will be much better, but still not easy.

Shooting for a Top 5 age group finish.

After that, I've got two weeks to finish prep for 206 miles in one day on the bike. Goal is 60 minutes off last year's time.

I went to a rock climbing center yesterday for the first time. Today I have muscles hurting that I've never felt before. It was a rejuvenating workout, and one I will do again. So much fun, too!

Fell short of my goal: My time was 'only' 37 minutes faster than my previous 70.3 (Half Ironman) triathlon.

I cut four minutes off the 1.2 mile swim, and felt good about that. I'm still slower than most and without that black line below me I can get off track pretty easily. Definite room for improvement.

The bike was awesome. I passed 37 people on the 56-mile ride around the lake and was passed by no one. Total bike time was 2:28 for an average of 22.7 miles per hour. I was 32 minutes faster than the last half-Ironman tri I was in. I had the 12th fastest bike split.

The run was terrible. I had a few GI issues and ended up making a couple of pit stops behind some shrubbery to avoid really embarassing myself. Side aches, cramps, painful calouses on my big toes, etc., led to a truly painful half marathon.

It also led to a renewed goal to improve on my run. I can see another 20 minutes coming off the total time easily depending on the course.

Can't wait to hit it again

Idaho, congrats, that's awesome. About the GI issues (yuck), do you think it was related to what you ate?
