Every starting pitcher Angels hoped to use has been hurt (or worse). The bullpen has been terrible. Their 3 and 4 hitters were both hurt. They lead the league in come from behind wins, which says something about the Mgr.

Washington is solid, but this year Scioscia's job has been off the charts.

 

I haven't seen or heard much about Leyland being a Hall of Famer in waiting.

Of course, I don't listen to sports talk radio.

And I've been out of town for the last week, so I didn't see the newspapers.


I have read some fanboi message boards that have posted thoughts that Leyland should have been fired earlier this year.

 

Leyland has gotten a tremendous amount of credit for doing relatively little in his career. He was the beneficiary when the Marlins bought a World Series. Otherwise, he's the guy who led the Pirates to their last three playoff appearances, then played a big role in botching the last two.

Not that he isn't a good manager, but a Hall of Famer? The standards are getting low if that happens.

 

leyland,who has been vastly overrated in the past has done a great job this season......look at that roster....besides cabrera who in the regular lineup have had good years..he has actually handled the staff and bullpen well...and he had to deal with the willis,bonderman,robertson,and zumaya fiascos...plus up until a week ago a lineup with one player hitting over 270..crap ass division yes..but he has done a helluva job

Girardi. Best record in baseball on a team that was supposed to have the best record in baseball is not an easy accomplishment. Factor in a bunch of injuries, ARod, Posada, Wang, Nady. For a couple fo weeks the Yankees were starting their 3rd and 4th string catchers.

For the first couple of months of the season it wasn't a lock he would have the job in September.

The Yankees were 5 games back on June 23 and now have a 9 game lead.

Attention, attention must finally be paid to such a person.

Actually, it is relatively easy to have the best record if you are supposed to have it. It was expected because the Yankees had the best talent.

Spare us the talk about injuries. The Angels have been hit just as hard and they were the ones who lost Teixeira to the Yankees. They also had to deal with the tragic death of a member of the team.

 

Please, OOP, the Angels didn't lose Teixeira. They could have kept him if they wanted to pay and they can afford it.

Injuries, tragedy, yes, the Angels had a lot to overcome. But don't put a financial decision in the same category.

I wouldn't totally discount Girardi, either. But he is behind Scioscia and Washington.

 

For a discussion of MGR of the year, it doesn't matter why they lost Teixiera. It just matters they didn't have him any more. They started the season without one of their best offensive players from a year ago, hence, the manager's job was tougher. It's irrelevant why it was tougher.

 

They had Texiera for a total of 54 games last year. It was a one year rental and they knew it.

They had the good fortune to play Oakland, Seattle and Texas 41 times, so far. They are 10-18 against the Rangers and Mariners. They did a nice job interleague 14-4 and against Baltimore and Kansas City 17-3,, that makes them 50-48 against the good teams.

heyabbott, knowing they were going to lose Teixeira doesn't mean it wasn't a loss.

At least you didn't even try to defend that loser of an argument that it was somehow harder for Girardi to manage the Yankees to the best record in baseball because they opened the season with the most talent and everybody knew it.

The Angels are five games behind the Yankees for the best record in baseball with lesser talent, just as many problems with injuries and the death of a player. They play in a division with one team with a losing record. The Yankees play in a division with two teams with losing records.

 

For the most part, abbott, the good teams always play .500 against other good teams and kick the crap out of the lesser teams.
