The Quincy (Ill.) Herald-Whig, a 20,000-circulation paper, is seeking a
multi-media journalist for our sports staff. This individual will provide
coverage for the newspaper and content for the Web and other platforms. The
ideal candidate will have strong skills as a writer, editor and page
designer and be comfortable with new media technology. Proficiency in
QuarkExpress is required. Prior daily newspaper experience is preferred, but
we will consider recent graduates.

The Herald-Whig is published Monday through Friday afternoons and Saturday
and Sunday mornings.

Quincy is a town of just over 40,000 that rests on the banks of the
Mississippi River in West-Central Illinois. We cover more than 40 high
schools in Illinois and Missouri as well as four colleges. We also cover
Western Illinois University, a Division I school an hour up the road in
Macomb, and we're just a two-hour drive from downtown St.Louis.

Great newspaper, anyone looking for a gig should jump on this.

 

I interviewed here for a copy editor/design position and was impressed by the staff. Such kind people. Can't say much about the paper as I only saw one edition while in town. But it seemed like it would be a nice place to live.

 

Good paper, nice town, they love their preps and outdoors stuff there.

 

Anyone know who left?

 

Matt Goldberg, who has been with us for two years, is leaving to pursue an MBA.

Thankfully, he's given us plenty of notice and will be with us until we fill the position. We've received a good response and will be reviewing all resumes early next week.

Dang it, I really wish a crappy paper in Illinois would have an opening like this. I know there's plenty of them down there.

 

One thing that hasn't been mentioned -- which I feel is a huge plus -- is that The Herald-Whig is owned by QNI, a family-owned company. The family truly cares about the product and its employees. And many of the family members work throughout the company.

 

family-owned is a definite plus...good to know.

 

Wow, that's surprising since they sure as heck don't give a rat's fanny about the employees at The New Jersey Herald in Newton, NJ. I can personally attest to that. There it's low pay and crappy product!
