Never lie on your resume cause you'll get caught. First you said you covered an NFL team, now it comes out that you covered the Jets.

I'm not lying. I have the my season credentials and my 70 or so clips to prove it. But your advice is sound.

    To OP:

Backstory: Graduated a few years ago after doing everything but sweep floors at a top-10 metro daily (wrote sports and news, hustled for print assignments and all the web work I could get my hands on). Never said no to an assignment, much at the expense of classes. In class: Did TV, radio, building websites, learned HTML/CSS, photography, all the applications/programs I could. Freelanced for a while, now have a job as a sports web editor for a top-50 shop.

Advice: Hustle, hustle, hustle. Don't say no to an assignment. Put a good spin on it all. Think anyone who says 'you can't' is full of shit. Make connections and stay connected. You'll be fine. Just keep at it.

Advice from a 20-year pro: Do pretty much exactly what boysnblu80 said in the above post.
Of course, if you want to have a real life (perhaps marry, have kids, make enough money to actually support them, etc.), do this: FIND ANOTHER LINE OF WORK TO PURSUE, AND FAST!!!!!!

Five pages and no one has told him to start sucking cock at the Greyhound station?

This fucking site disappoints me these days.

there are no Greyhound stations near me so I'll have to decline that piece of advice.

Good news and bad news. I never thought i'd say this so soon, but I have a strong lead at a weekly. Sadly though, I won't be covering sports if I get the job. The guy that interviewed me said there may be a bone thrown my way here or there but I'd most likely be stuck covering court proceedings and/or police beat. But that somewhere down the road, i'll get a shot. Who knows. Pay isn't that great but not bad to start. Don't want to jinx it though. Will find out Monday if i got the job.
