The Post is now a great paper, but it's criminal it took you guys shutting down to do it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Mile... when the RMN was around, you guys kicked MAJOR ass. All of you will always be in my thoughts, from you to Tracy to BG.

  2. Saw Tracy a few weeks back enjoying the Wyoming-Colorado State game in Fort C.

OK, I doubt he was "enjoying it," per se, but he was there, and looked well, no doubt gearing up to head to Tucson one more time.

It was one of the few markets where you actually felt like you had to read both papers.

  4. Couple of points,
Sans Serif, let me say I enjoyed the Wyoming at CSU game much more when I made the trip in January. Cowgirls play hard all the time.

Mizzou grad, I do feel fortunate. I've pieced together several contract deals and some free lance and wasn't forced to leave Wyoming. I do two columns a week for FOXSports.com, although I was given a chance to do regular coverage during spring training. I will do pregame and postgame on the Rockies telecasts (135 or so) again this year and have enjoyed it. I have basically done one hit a week for MLB Network, and have been allowed to write some columns for the PBR magazine. I will always have my ties with Baseball America. And with a major assist from Jack Etkin and Steve Foster, we've continued to play with insidetherockies.com, although that is just for fun and not financial.

I feel like I've been one of the fortunate ones. The business has taken some hits and to see quality management people like Barry Forbis and Kevin Huhn battling to survive really makes me shake my head. Those are folks who made it fun to work at a newspaper, who had values and news judgement. At least Barry is still in the business.

I thought Forbis was hired somewhere, Orlando maybe?

Someone told me Lee Rasizer found a job, but didn't know where.

Forbis is deputy SE (not sure of exact title but that's what he is) in Orlando.
Lee was working for CBSSports.com at the end of the football season, replacing another ex-Rocky guy who got a full-time gig. Not sure if anything has changed with Lee.

Have not heard about Lee beyond CBSSports. He replaced Aaron Lopez, who is now the Nuggets writer for Nuggets.com.

There were more than 100 people at the reunion Saturday night. Place was packed, and good to catch up with folks.

  8. The reason I mentioned Forbis is he is basically doing the same job he had 25, 30 years ago. The guy is the best I have worked for in 40 years at running a department, stretching a budget and putting out a product. Kevin Huhn, meanwhile, is doing some free lance editing and well, doing some other odd jobs to make ends meet. Excellent hands on guy in running a department. Worked his butt off to help writers and from best I can tell also had the back of desk guys, although I never worked the desk in Denver and so I can only offer that as an observation from afar.

One of my biggest regrets from my Colorado years was that I never got the opportunity to work for Barry, someone I've always liked and respected. As one of his Scripps cousins, I found it refreshing to hear his people -- Tracy is one of many -- speak so well of him. It's a damned shame that the Rocky was euthanized. It was one hell of a newspaper with a terrific sports section.

I'd be curious how many sports editors The Post had during Forbis' tenure at the RMN. I'll bet it's about 15.

He's one of the few longtime editors who I've never heard a bad thing about.
