Warning: Arizona gets hot in the summer. No, hotter than that. After an Arizona summer, temps in the 70s and 80s will be sweater weather. Winters are very tolerable, though. Yuma, like Parker and Lake Havasu, does attract a lot of snowbirds. It's right on the border of Arizona, California and Mexico. You're 3-4 hours away from Phoenix and San Diego. Vegas is about 5 hours north.

Hades may better describe Yuma in the summer. Spring break there is nice, though.

 

Arizona is Arizona, except up in the greatness that is Flag.

But what makes Yuma ten times worse is the monsoon season and the humidity that comes up off the Gulf of California. Give me the Gulf Coast anyday.

 

The summer is unbearable, seriously. But if you're from the West Coast and get escape every so often, it's a decent gig.

 

Two of the high school nicknames are the Criminals and Kings.

 

The distance is a bit misleading. I didn't get away for more than one weekend a year in each when I was in Yuma (combination of The Sun payscale and working weekends, and the drives get very draining if you've gotta be back in work on Monday). The Mexican towns nearby aren't bad places to kick it on a weekend, however (especially if you know a Spanish speaker, San Luis Rio Colorado has the most decent clubs within an hour-radius). I wouldn't count on escaping very often, and the cost of living is higher than it should be given what the place is (and, I warn, higher than HR will claim). That said, there are definitely worse places to spend a couple years.

 

Yeah, and we ain't talkin' 102 here. 115, 120.

 

But it's a dry heat.
