Publisher arrested in Culpeper

He just can't help himself:

Culpeper police released more details Monday regarding the arrest of former Star-Exponent publisher Mitch Sneed, who faces a felony charge of breaking and entering as well as two misdemeanor assault and battery charges.

According to town spokesman Wally Bunker, Sneed, 48, of the 100 block of Coleman Alley, broke into a house in the 400 block of Virginia Avenue late Saturday night. Sneed's 42-year-old ex-girlfriend, whom police did not identify, was staying with a 48-year-old female friend at the house.

Bunker said the friend called 911 at about 11:22 p.m. reporting an assault.
According to the police report, Sneed forced his way into the home, pushing his ex-girlfriend out of the way and charging a 38-year-old man who is allegedly dating the woman.

Sneed is accused of assaulting the man, who suffered a laceration to his nose, several abrasions and a bite mark on his stomach. Sneed also had injuries to his face, police said.

...

This marks Sneed's third arrest in the past two months, all on domestic charges.

Probably a good thing he's the former publisher.

I'd like to hang my head and pronounce, more in sorrow than in anger, that this is a sad moment in the life of a good guy. But I can't. Instead, it's another pathetic moment in the life of a petty, rageaholic deck.

Here's the thing: Mitch didn't just suddenly fall off the rails. He's always been a clown, and anyone who spent more than a few minutes around him should be aware of it.

Yet the fine leadership at Media General decided he had done such a bang-up job as an editor that he needed to be PROMOTED to publisher.

If there were any justice, the higher-up who made that decision would suffer a similar fate. His demise should be an indictment of the entire way that MG hires, develops and monitors its executives. But incompetence generally rewards incompetence. I'm not sure that's unique to Media General, but in my experience that company seems to make more spectacularly bad management decisions than most.

Is there a reason why only one newspaper is running this?

Well said.

These people seem real, ah, interesting. Is Jerry Springer next for them?

The publisher bit a dude on the stomach? He should be arrested for fighting like a girl.
