    Call it a tie.

Either way. Doesn't matter much. Tie, I guess. Unless you have a good headline with draw -- and I don't mean "Luck of the draw."

Pleased to report that the San Diego Union-Tribune's Mark Zeigler is on the soccer scene in South Africa. Not sure how he sold it, but his stuff has been typically terrific.

We labeled the 0-0 game a draw.

As far as coverage, our section only consists of four pages daily, so the Cup dominates. Generally, our centerpiece on 1B with refers to a more in-depth package with local picks of games and maybe a notebook or something.

The Cup is a huge hit in out area.

Any big or medium papers out there NOT put U.S.-England on its sports front? Because the big paper out here did not. Refer off A1. Much much smaller refer off the sports cover to the coverage inside.

Define "big paper" ... as in circ and what else they had to cover.

We ran U.S. game preview and gamer with big play on the sports front, but not sure that will continue against less attractive opponents.

Other games/preview stuff/bits of info get a rail.

Salt Lake Tribune did just that, at least online.

Noticed that the Post ruined its great front page headline with "Luck of the Draw" on the sports cover.

We're a 16K and we had it as our dominant centerpiece on our front.

I'd go further to call them exhibition games, not friendlies ... the sideline, not the touch line ... this is America, dammit!
