They have one candidate that they want and four backup "finalists" if the main choice doesn't work out.

For anyone who hasn't heard, this job has been officially offered and accepted a couple weeks ago.
Ryan Young, formerly of the Kansas City Star, will be starting at the end of July/beginning of August.

Was he let go by the Star or did he leave of his own accord? Either way, congratulations to Ryan.

    He was a layoff victim.
A good dude who landed in what appears to be a pretty good situation.

Although this endorsement will be forgotten in the shadow of the great Todd M. Adams' post, I wanted to echo what a good marriage this will be. Ryan is one of the most hard-working folks I've had the pleasure of working with, and it's good to see that sometimes, a little good can come out of something that seemed so bad.

He gets a good job in a forward-thinking department, and also gets to move to the greatest state in the country. Now just trade in some of those blue button-ups for a two-piece seersucker, Ryan, and by God you'll fit right in.
