"The planet is just the right size, might have water in liquid form, and in galactic terms is relatively nearby at 120 trillion miles away."

Um, does Jet Blue fly out there?

I remain completely stunned (and a little skeptical) how scientists can determine so much about something so far away based on such little actual data.

It reminds me of that Quincy episode where they basically determined all the physical characteristics of a person based on one bone they found.

And now, Gliese 581 G also needs women. Apparently this recently discovered planet is the most hospitable to life yet known. Truly fascinating.

The Internet is a porous system.

Bazillions of electrons leak every microsecond.

No doubt that what ever might have been on Gliese 581C would have been able to receive SportsJournalists.com.

Now, there is nothing living there.

They all read the "He was great in 'The Client' jokes," and laughed themselves to death.

The inhabitants of Gliese 581C heard that Junkie finds Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing 'pedestrian.'
They are now planning to attack Earth.

That comment convinced them that there isn't intelligent life out here

They will, but with 117 connecting flights, so not really worth it. :)

And just wait until the parents call to complain that the Gliese 581E Junior High School volleyball team deserves to make the paper because they work hard.

And the SE replies, "How? The first serve is taking five light years to come down."

I love Gilmour, but I'm willing to bet he didn't make it through his 20s without eating chips.

Or 'crisps' as they call them in England and on Gliese 581C.

It is of course well known that careless talk costs lives, but the full scale of the problem is not always appreciated. For instance, at the exact moment you said "JIMI HENDRIX'S PLAYING IS PEDESTRIAN" a freak wormhole opened in the fabric of the space-time continuum and carried your words far far back in time across almost infinite reaches of space to a distant galaxy where strange and warlike beings were poised on the brink of frightful interstellar battle.

The two opposing leaders were meeting for the last time. A dreadful silence fell across the conference table as the commander of the Vl'Hurgs, resplendent in his black jeweled battle shorts, gazed levelly at the G'Gugvunt leader squatting opposite him in a cloud of green, sweet-smelling steam. As a million sleek and horribly beweaponed star cruisers poised to unleash electric death at his single word of command, the Vl'Hurg challenged his vile enemy to take back what it had said about his mother.

The creature stirred in its sickly broiling vapour, and at that very moment the words "JIMI HENDRIX'S PLAYING IS PEDESTRIAN" drifted across the conference table. Unfortunately, in the Vl'Hurg tongue this was the most dreadful insult imaginable, and there was nothing for it but to wage terrible war for centuries. Eventually the error was detected, but over two hundred and fifty thousand worlds, their peoples and cultures perished in the holocaust.

You have destroyed most of a small galaxy. Please pick your words with greater care.
