The Sun of Lowell, a 48,000 circulation newspaper north of Boston, is seeking a multimedia dynamo for its sports department. We want a five-tool player to become the MVP for our readers (the person who formerly held this job won first place in New England sports column writing two years in a row). We need a guy/gal who can report, write, blog, and isn’t shy about standing in front of a video camera for our online operation. We also want a person who can edit and paginate in a pinch. We cover college and pro sports, but the high school scene is our bread and butter. If you’re not passionate about high school coverage, don’t apply. If you’ve got it all, send a resume and cover letter to: Sports Editor Dennis Whitton, The Sun, 491 Dutton St., Lowell, MA 01852, or email him at dwhitton@lowellsun.com.

If I'm not mistaken, this is Lynn Worthy's old job. A great writer whose hopefully moving up to a larger newspaper.

Yes and yes. Worthy is now at the Binghamton Sun-Bulletin. All the best to him, and to hoping whoever they find to replace him is just as talented.

Salary range? Is the Sun independently owned? Non-chain?

Is this where the Spygate guy from The Herald used to work?

No word on salary range, but the Sun is a MediaNews Group paper. It's in a family with four other areas dailies, covering Northern Mass/ Southern NH.

No. He had been at the Lawrence Eagle Tribune. Similar mill town on the Merrimack.

I haven't work there, but here's some background. The SE is Dennis Whitton, and he seems to be a decent guy. Lynn Worthy usually covered high school athletics and some UMASS-Lowell sports. He also covered the Celtics during big home-games. Not sure if that'll carry over to the new hire, though.

If nothing else, you'll be able to brag that you work for the same paper that employed Jack Kerouac early on as a sports reporter.

Has anyone heard anything or applied for this position? I did within 24 hours of it being posted, but I have heard nothing in response, not even an acknowledgment that I applied.
