Of course Gruden, the classic backslapping bully archetype, picks on Derek Anderson instead of someone like Favre.

He'll actually have a chance to do well against the St. Louis Cardinals, seeing as they don't exist as a football franchise anymore.

But he would still suck against the Cleveland Rams and the Morgan A.C.

Well, Favre's his boy. You'll never see him criticize Favre.

Then again, you can say the same thing about Mort. :D

Oops I'd laugh about my mistake there but as Derek Anderson says, "Nothing's funny."

Yes! Kato, you're all over it on this thread. Agreed 100%.

  6. I'm sure there are not too many boys in the booth who will criticize their Favre-ite QB.

  7. I'm kind of surprised folks on here didn't pick up on the fact that Somers was actually being the exact opposite of a douche, despite the many attempts of Anderson to be just that.

If you listen to the thing, he's not grilling Anderson or persisting when he has an answer. He's giving Anderson a fair chance to put into context something he knows fans -- rightly or wrongly -- are going to scream about. He persists in doing this despite Anderson getting defensive and going off on him. It's what we often do with pro sports folks -- let them be a dick to us so we can be fair to them.

If Somers was a real douche, he would have accepted Anderson's lie and printed it as such and not given him repeated attempts to say "Yes, I was laughing, but of course I care." If anything, Anderson now has his passionate "I care" speech THANKS to Somers not despite him. Of course, he doesn't recognize that and blames the messenger.

I'd expect that from him. And some fans. A little surprised so many media types apparently didn't recognize the situation for what it was.

Unless I'm wildly ignorant on West Coast papers, let's hold off on the whole deadline thing. Wasn't it only like 8:30 Phoenix time?

This is exactly correct. Anderson acts like Somers is pestering him, but you can tell Somers is trying to clarify what he's talking about.

No. Game didn't even kick off until after 6:30 in Phoenix. I think it ended around 10pm local time.

The reporter gave Anderson a chance to explain. He was doing him a favor. For some reason, Anderson turned it down. I, too, blame the Cardinals PR. Anderson could have turned the whole thing around with a simple explanation.

It's actually kind of heartening to see, at least from what I can tell, most fans siding with Somers and recognizing that he handled the situation professionally. Of course, if the exact same thing happened and Anderson hadn't been sucking donkey balls for the entire season, Somers would be getting lit up.

I think they read "SOmers" as "SImers," so they came out with knives at the ready.
