If Miz still has the belt, I could see Orton winning it by RKOing everyone in sight.

But a lot can happen between now and then. We got to see if the Barrett with Nexus angle continues until the Rumble.

Possibly Swagger if they want to restart his push. If Orton isn't the champ by then, and he's not facing Miz, he'd be in the mix. It doesn't sound like Taker will be back by then. Longshot: John Morrison, to set up Miz-Morrison. Longershot: Alberto Del Rio, who would feud with Edge (who I assume will have the title by then)

I can't see Swagger in a main event at Wrestlemania. Then again, no one saw him winning MITB or the WHC. At this point, Jack Swagger has to be the least accomplished world champion in WWF history. The guy was jobbing out before winning MITB and has become almost a comedy wrestler since losing the WHC.

I thought Swagger was doing a great job as WHC and is still very entertaining. I don't know why he got pushed back down the card.

I'm guessing Cena gets in, with the stip that if he wins the Rumble, he is reinstated.

It comes down to Cena and Trips, and Trips chucks him out to keep Cena "fired" and interfering in more people's matches. Because, you know, Paul calls the shots.

Sorry, Khali had way more of a push than Swagger ever got. One of his first matches was a squash over then WHC Rey Mysterio. Then Khali defeated 'Taker at Judgment Day. At WM 23, Khali defeated Kane. Khali defeated HBK in a #1 contenders match. All of those wins took place before he won the WHC.

He's certainly been turned into a jobber since, but Swagger's biggest feuds prior to winning the WHC were with Matt Hardy and MVP.

If we're talking booking standpoint, Khali was definitely booked better before he won the title than Swagger. From a talent standpoint, Swagger was a decent champion. Too bad the whole thing may have seriously hurt his career. Jim Ross loves the guy, and he just looks like a champion, but the WWE has done everything else possible to kill him.

And I'll go with a darkhorse pick as a Rumble winner, because it's not fun to just say Cena - CM Punk as a tweener face, a la when Jericho "won" the belt from HHH the first time. I think Punk is getting over as a face on commentary. Instead of having him go back to full heel, the WWE should give him that Jericho role, especially now that they've made Orton go from a bit of a tweener to full babyface.

(I can't believe I'm typing that, by the way, probably about a year after he put Vince in the hospital and kissed Stephanie McMahon. Wrestling is so bizarre.)

I discovered this interesting site tonight, about the history of Memphis wrestling. Lots of good stuff in it:

    http://www.memphiswrestlinghistory.com/index.html

There's one part where some of the top wrestlers from the '60s and '70s are featured (Lawler, Jackie Fargo, Tojo Yamamoto). And in each wrestler's link are some actual newspaper clippings. Some of the interesting stuff in the clippings:

    1. They acknowledge that wrestling's not a real sport, and the wrestlers themselves somewhat break kayfabe. Real names are sometimes used, some of the wrestlers got arrested and their addresses were displayed.

    2. In a Lawler story from 1976, he is quoted as saying he didn't want to keep wrestling when he was past 35-years old (which would be 1985). Seeing the fact that he main-evented Raw in a WWE title match two weeks ago in the year 2010, talk about your ironic comments.

    3. In a couple of Sputnik Monroe clippings, he and another wrestler had been arrested around 1960 for the crime of having beers in a black bar, breaking the segregation laws.

Thanks for the props on my website. I worked very hard at making it the best resource on Memphis Wrestling. Between the website, my books on the subject and helping other Memphis Wrestlers put out their books, I've tried to do everything I could to preserve and document the history of Memphis Wrestling.
