Before I clicked this thread I thought of about 10 things that might have caused that kind of reaction from somebody. I haven't read that paper lately so I wondered if somebody was surprised there wasn't more coverage of Big 12 men, Big 12 women, Mavericks, Cowboys/labor situation, preps, Spring Training, etc. That they would even cover the SWAC Tournament never crossed my mind.

Which son on the team is yours?

Most of them. It's folks like you in the white media who don't give a crap about HBCUs which creates these slights and why deserving schools end up getting the short end of the stick when it comes to coverage. For goodness sakes this a DI basketball tournament.

You really, really don't want to pull the race card on this one.
If the Southland or Sun Belt conferences had their championship games in Dallas, under similar circumstances, I'm going to go out on a limb and say they'd get the same treatment.

Why, Oh why do smaller conferences then get the short end of the stick in coverage in comparison to other conferences.

And I do think the racial make up of the media does have something to do with coverage of issues, leagues, teams and athletes. More than 80 percent of the sports media is white. Am I wrong about that?

    Because they're smaller.

In turn, meaning there are fewer people interested.

The bigger slight would be if the big papers in the area of the teams in the SWAC title game didn't produce a story.

FYI, if this was a phone conversation, that would be the point at which I excused myself and hung up.

I see I can't get any unbiased answers here so I guess I'll move on.

Ask a biased question, get a biased answer.

    1. Kid, watch what assumptions you make about the "white media" on this thread. I've seen your work, and I want you to know I was covering games involving HBCUs before you were in high school -- maybe in grade school. I am certain I know more SWAC history than you do. I've probably covered more SWAC championship events than you have. I bet I know more all-time SWAC coaches than you do.

    2. So, shut the fuck up, for a second.

    3. My post said nothing about the relative news value of the SWAC championship in the Metroplex.

    4. I was pointing out you should learn how to construct a sentence that says what you want it to say before you come on here and blast a news organization with far better credentials than yours.

    5. Tell me what you meant to say when you said this: SWAC fans care just as much about fan bases from other universities. I do not think it means what you think it means.

(The last sentence was said in the voice of Inigo Montoya.)
